Yes you are ALL correct! - well sort of.........The first season of the Flintstones featured this opening sequence with the old instrumental. However, the incidental music in the show occasionally used an instrumental version of the theme we all know.
When the series became poplear, a soundtrack record was released and the cast were given words to sing composed to fit the music.
This was then used, with animation to fit the lyrics, when the second season started.
Then, when the episodes went into syndication, the first season titles were removed and given the new ones which were used from then on.
Go forward to when the series was remastered for Boomerang and they decided to keep the original opening for "historical" interest ( they also did this with the Jetsons )
There you go - hope that is clear - you can now sleep at night Whataday!
p.s. for once I agree with you Whataday - it IS strange that CITV have acquired this series, particularly that the early episodes are not really "kid friendly" and are more like situation comedies with little "on screen" action.
It would have been more logical to show the later, rarely seen shows featuring secret agent / haunted house / outer-space type stories but then I am assuming the plebs at CITV research this sort of stuff - don't we all ??????????

Ah. Glad thats cleared up.
CiTV links with Michael this afternoon, still no long shot of the studio though! Viewers are invited to contact the show again, so we may have a bit more time today. They should do what nick are doing during l8r and have viewers messages scrolling beneath the adverts.
What would be nice is if they could bring back the old, see 5om see you after the break with citv introducing the next programme, used during crossroads mk 1. Therefore we could have a link up with lorraine just before design wars.
I still think that by dropping a programme a day, perhaps introducing short programmes such as yoko jakamoko toto and using the rest for games, comps, guests, phone in's, etc would work as its different to the childrens alternative, it would be more like xchange with programmes. I think it could work!

The Flintstones has been removed from SMTV - the replacement is Pokemon, which I assume is continuing from where GMTV left off. Since Pokemon was on SMTV when it started, good move ITV. That means Pokeraps may well be shown - after all, it's new continuity mixed with classic sketches now. http://www.smtvlive.co.uk/smtv/thisweek.asp

Good to see pokemon back, im not a fan, but i'd prefer to see pokemon than another old ep of flinstones for a forth day!
Im not sure how things are going to work, when reading the linked page yesturday, I got the impression that viewers had to vote for classic clips, and they were putting chums on each week, therefore only chums and a classic clip are shown within the whole show.
If the old games hadnt been used many times before, it would have been nice to bring back loads of old ideas.
I like how they have been bringing back the song/sketch at the top of the show. They should bring back a challenge des or something. And perhaps some of the lesser played games such as what's 'whoever' whistling, all hands on dec (though it would have to be a cut out of him), now that was a classic game!

Even though the voice was more gruff, was it still Dan Castellaneta doing the voice?
If you think that's weird, try listening to the genie's voice in Aladdin 2: Return Of Jafar and the Aladdin tv series. Castellaneta stepped in when Robin Williams pulled out. It's so strange listening to Homer Simpson's voice coming out of the genie's mouth!

Just going back briefly to the Flintstones...
Next time you watch the Flintstones, listen to the voice of Fred Flintstone and notice how it sounds to the original Homer Simpson voice when it was more gruff to the dopey voice we get nowadays.
