In my opinion good guests can carry a show that may otherwise be quite standard, even the musical guests can vary. Take Blue or McFly, you know you'll get a good Cakey Sk8, a bit of funny banter and laughs plus a good musical performance if you like that sort of thing. Then there's the Cheeky Girls, that seem to be on every other week. You get a dire song, dire chat, poor Cakey Sk8. Its practically worthless having them on at all.
The comedy guests have been the best. It's a pitty they can't get Ricky, Bradley or Joe on again!
Also good shows can add to the whole feel of the show. Anyone remember 'Becoming' on SMTV Live, That show pulled the entire programme downhill during the time it was on as it was totally irrelevant
Yeah I see what you both mean about guests. In the form that the show has taken guests can be good, and some of the boy bands have added some great moments, even if it was just for the programme when Duncan was hypnotised.
There are many great comedy acts that they could bring on. Do you remember Brian Conley on SM:tv, he was great, he even guest presented once, you would have thought it was an odd choice, but it worked quite well.
I'd totally forgot about Becoming on SM:tv until you mentioned it, it was most probably one of the worst mistakes that they made on the show. They knew the show was watched by teenagers and adults, but adding an MTV programme just cut out the kids that the show was really made for.
In that kind of way, the Ministry have never really made a mistake with a show. Even Tutenstein was ok as it was aimed at kids, maybe a bit too kiddish, who knows. Hopefully they won't make the mistake of getting a wierd programme on board. As long as they always stick with comedies it's ok.
I don't understand though why they put Pet Alien and Atomic Betty on within the first half an hour, I wonder whether people would prefer them to be spread out a bit with more items between. They actually have more going on between the two parts of Drake & Josh, though the cartoons have nothing to do with one another, very strange indeed.

They definately need a better breed of guest, but like you said a show shouldn't depend on special guests to boost the ratings. But I feel that it would really help right now.
