Whatever, I'm going to keep mentioning the return of SM:TV is MoM does not last past 2005. I still think if it does, SM:TV would be the best format to do it with, and if they get a good team, it would probabally be just as good as it was in 2002 (Obviously it would never be as good as Ant, Dec & Cat). It was certinally still good until early 2003, it just seemed like they stopped bothering when they knew ITV wanted them axed.

I'm not particularly sure what good bring back SM:TV would do when MoM is basically the same show, a mix of sketches, games etc. They would still need to come up with new ideas just the same a MoM are doing.

Anyway, the big news this morning was that the brand new series of My Parents are Aliens will be shown on the Ministry of Mayhem from next week, and not as part of CITV weekdays.

I wouldn't say they were the same show at all. MoM is very different from the SM:TV I know and love. Far too scripted, not enough sketches and games (especially phone in) and the characters- Ugh! Give me SM:TV any day- even if it is the 2003 version. The two shows are very different, and SM:TV was way superior. And like James2001 said, I want it back on air if MoM fails. I just don't see what harm it would do at all. With a good writing and presenting tam, they really could do a good job.

IMO the last episode had much more effort put into i hat SM:TV had over the last year. Because ITV wanted SM:TV gone no matter what, that effort had gone, and they didn't properly replace presenters when they left either. After Tess & Brian left and Shavaughn vanished, we we left with Stephen Mulhern, rather than making any attempt to try to replace them properly, they just grabbled a CITV personality who was free and those last 4 months were DIRE because of the combined no-effort and bad presenting team.

I personally think they should have given the show a final chance and a big overhaul (Certinally a new presenting and writing team could have been on the cards) and given it another year at least. Not sure it matters now though, and we'll never know what would have happenned had SM:TV continued?

I just find MoM so plain and dull compared to SM:TV. The scripted approch, the sketches are TOO scripted (sorry, but I don't like ButHaven at all), no phone-in games like Eat My Goal & Wonkey Donkey, it's just not the same at all. I would like SM:TV back (no matter what anyone says, MoM is a far cry from SM:TV). Cetinally giving MoM another year to straighten out is a good idea (SM:TV would never have kicked off if they hadn't had that), but if it just doesn't work, bring back the previous show- SM:TV- tried & tested, popular and with a good team can at least be equal with the Brian & Tess era.

Great post there Big_ fat, I totally agree with your comments ref Sm:tv .
The following might be of interest to James, I think he was enquiring earlier about Nickelodeon.

ITV1 is close to signing a deal with Nickelodeon UK, which will see the terrestrial broadcaster handing over its weekday afternoon CiTV schedule to the Viacom and BSkyB joint-venture.

ITV1 is close to signing a deal with Nickelodeon UK, which will see the terrestrial broadcaster handing over its weekday afternoon CiTV schedule to the Viacom and BSkyB joint-venture.

The deal, which could be concluded in the next few weeks, will see Nickelodeon executives commission and produce the bulk of content for the 105-minute weekday slot.

ITV had been talking to Disney as well as Nickelodeon, producer of cult cartoon SpongeBob Squarepants, but Disney pulled out of the discussions.

ITV is expected to retain some control of the schedule by commissioning shows from independents. Granada Kids is likely to get a slice of the commissions.

The deal will not initially affect ITV weekend children and youth offerings such as Ministry of Mayhem and CD:UK.

It is unclear whether the CiTV brand will continue. Nickelodeon is believed to have proposed a new name for the slot, INK – ITV Nickelodeon Kids.

When confirmed, the deal will end months of negotiations and internal debate over what to do with CiTV. At one stage ITV executives had looked at creating an ambitious "CiTV plc"-style business which would have included a dedicated CiTV channel.

An ITV spokeswoman said: "We are looking at options for strategic alliance in the children’s arena and that process continues."

Like I said, as Nick are rmoured to be launching their own version of SM:TV (possibly titled sn:tv like in Oz- though Nick calling it SM:TV may well get them viewers), maybe they will consider putting this on to ITV- a possible return of the SM:TV brand. As cdukjunkie said, they are licencing it from Blaze, would blaze have a hand in production too? I do think there has been a connection between all of this- Nick, CITV & SM/SN:TV

I have watched the last 3 eps of SM:TV that I taped (I wished I'd taped more from throught the years) and I really do think letting the show go was a big mistake, and I do think ITV are realising this now. While MoM isn't terrible, it isn't a patch on SM:TV, nor are the ratings. The 2nd year is certinally a chance to get MoM to work, but we'll have to wait and see what happens if it doesn't- I would still like to see SM:TV back.

Yuck. No offence but I hope you never work in graphics design in television for I reckon you'd give a channel/strand a talking point for all the wrong reasons.

Why? Is it really that bad? I quite like it myself, it take the logos of both and brings them together.
Is it just the colours that you don't like? Or could you explain why you don't please, it would be helpful, thanks!

I think you should be asking yourself what's actually right with them. You are trying to put together two separate identities that don't go together. That is my concern. Either do it all in the ITV/Nickelodeon style or give it its own style. Don't try and mix two different styles together, it rarely works.

But surely CITV will remain as CITV but with the programmes being supplied by Nickelodeon?

It is NOT a great idea for ITV to rebrand a portion of its output with a rivals name! What ever next? - Living Itv ? It's ludicrous.

CITV never stood for Central ITV - even though it was always provided by Central. Therefore there is NO real reason for the incorporation of the Nickelodeon name in the new 'brand' To the viewer (especially kids) its a pointless exercise!

I'm saying this now so noone gets their hopes up:

A Nickelodeon version of SM:tv has NOT been commissioned - a show simular to it HAS.

It has NO relation to SM:tv or sn:tv and will be totally original.

Blaze are producing it THEMSELVES with the commission coming from Nick. Laughing

I think the idea is to attempt to get a branded slot on a Children's channel. So if this goes ahead we may see 'INK' on Nickelodeon. But with 'INK' being a new brand that will hardly have the desired effect.

Surely the CiTV on Nickelodeon thing would work better with Nick getting to commission and produce CiTV afternoons, and possibly a CiTV Nick strand, and they can also get more advertising due to the deal by at the end of CiTV saying for more... (whether it's us (if they share presenters), a programme title, or just simply 'Live Fun') tune into Nickelodeon (with an ITV News style caption with Channel numbers for different providers).

Perhaps they may do something where by they create a New Nick Breakfast Show to do the Nick Live thing, and then use the CiTV brand for CiTV Extra from 5-7. It would carry over viewers from ITV1, and gain new ones to ITV1 if it's promoted on Nick.

They could use Nick presenters for both ITV1 and Extra, and it would flow through nicely.

And is it just me that likes the sound of a CiTV plc?

MOM vs SM:tv, but why are the forum putting them against each other?

People are saying the MOM is nothing like SM:tv, that's the idea.
And even if MOM does go, ITV will never commission SM:tv again, and even though Commissioning may go to Nick, they will still have a good percentage of control!

The thing with MoM is that it's trying too hard to be SM:tv rather than being itself.
It started off as a Ministry of Mayhem, and that's what it's got to be.
Dictionary Defination of the word 'Mayhem'...
'a situation in which there is little or no order or control.'

Which unless planned isn't really found on MoM.
What they need is to make every show like their last.
In that way, I mean that the producer should treat the show as a surprise party and include many elements that the Presenters don't know about, and have bits of set blowing up, random characters walking in and adlibbing whenever they want to.

They should just treat it as a free for all.
Get the interactive elements back on form, keep things fresh and turning over (not just introducing new sets all of the time!) and maintain a healthy show.

True some of you may be saying that you prefer SM:tv, but until you fully give MoM a chance, you will always feel like that. It's like getting a new car, driving it for the first time and then keep saying that you prefer your old car!

Plus remember that not many of you watched SM:tv within it's first year, I did as I loved the cheapness, but many didn't!

And as for the dance, I don't like the no titles and just dancing and singing (that's very cheap), but I do think that's ok after titles, and at the end of the show. It's fun, it's lively and it's a great thing for kids TV.
And some of us out of the demographic like it!

I did, in fact I have fond memories of that first year. Even then SM:TV still had a lot going for it. I still wish ITV did give it that last chance (it was a big mistake that they didn't IMO), but it was obvious for quite a while that ITV wanted the show gone, and that made the producers stop bothering which is really the only reason why the show got so bad. Even into 2003 the show was still very good (to be honest, prior to Brian & Tess leaving it was better than MoM had managed), it was only the last few months that it really slipped, which was caused largely by losing 3 cast members and only being replaced by one- Stephen. I still think SM:TV would be the best replacement if MoM just doesn't manage to build an audience up (though with all the work they've put in, I would hate to see it fail. It's improved A LOT since it started). A tried & tested formula Vs a new & risky one.
