The ironic thing is that cd:uk was actually better when it started in terms of music and items, etc. Where it was the other way around for smtv live.

Now it seems to have gone into music for a younger audience and is in competition with totp saturday.

cd:uk could work at 5:30ish and used to work at that time when it was placed there during the old grand prix qualifiers in the morning!

www.smtvlive.co.uk says that its brians last show on saturday. Its a shame, hes the only thing thats really camp and is good with live tv!

SM:tv could still work if its given an entily different angle! They need to aim for a different market to dick & dom wen its comes in september!
Something like live & kicking last incarnation; though that failed tremendously due to the darkness of it from the light entertainment show that originally was. It needs a saturday show 2002/3 revamp;

improve everything and reformat ideas and include and increase new ones; such as phone ins on a saturay morning and not just for competitions; i thought the idea behind live & kicking 2000/1 was great, the presenters were good; and the first show was great; it just seemed to lose it over the weeks; and sm:tv was popular with ant dec and cat; so l&k couldnt compete; though the saturday show was just the old live & kicking under a different name; at least l&k were willling to try something new.

This along with a mad set; mad titles; mad presenters that are naturally talented and have some sort of following and natural humour; with sketches and great shows that will also attract a new audience aswell as some old viewers back!

The thing with SM:tv is they are still using features that were used on the show when Ant and Dec started such as Wonkey Donkey.

They need to risk new ideas; and try and be new and original rather than keeping in tradition! Some things like sketches should stay, and the idea of phone competitions; but not the same ones; surely they can come up with new ideas to support the show around these concepts.

Sm:tv should shake some new ideas into place in september to show itv that they can do original and can try and save viewers; at least they wont then think that they didnt try to fight even though they were losing viewers.

Perhaps by keeping des & shavaughan as comedy sketch ppl just as trev & simon, and rich, bed and gez were on Live & Kicking. And getting in a new duo or trio to front the show (perhaps ppl who have worked together before). As I keep saying, whats wrong with DERMOT O'LEERY & JOSIE D'ARBY; they worked great on the bigger breakfast and still have a rapor everytime shes on BBLB!

I don't think Dermot or Josie would be interested. Dermot has pretty much broken into adult TV and Josie is concentrating on acting. They would have been very good on it a few years ago, but not now.

So hang on, let me get this - Once Tess and Brian have gone, the show will only have those two new one doing it? Also, CD:UK, is Cat staying or leaving? I thought she was going to quit smtv then leave CD:UK a few months later??

That's what most people said after she left SM:tv, but I can recall remembering that she did sign a contract not too long after she left SM:tv, to carry on presenting CD:UK for another year or two, but the show hasn't been as good since Ant and Dec left it, but the three of them were a good choice as they do have a good knowledge in music (Ant and Dec were singers and Cat used to work for MTV)

Brian has said that he will not renew his contract which was to end in august; but he is leaving now and using up his holidays. It has been reported that Tess is to quit; im not sure if it was september, or later in the year. ITV bosses have only renewed the sm:tv live contract up until christmas instead of renewing their 52 weeks a year contract. They are looking at replacements to take the spot in the new year; though i suppose if smtv wins back ratings till xmas then itv may extend their contract. If or when tess leaves, fill in presenters will take over alongside des & shavaughan; and whoever (if anyone permanently does) replaces Brian!

From the SMTV website:

STEPHEN MULHERN joins the regular presenting team of SMTV Live this week. Stephen is one of CiTV's most famous faces and his new Friday show "Globo Loco" is fantastic. He'll be performing some Sick Tricks on Des, Shavaughn and Tess and starring in 'Eminemmerdale', which makes a welcome return to SMTV Live this Saturday. Also joining us for fun is CiTV's LEAH. Leah will be telling us all about CiTV's fab new summer shows and no doubt trying to get all the dirt on Brad Pitt from our very own Shavaughn!

I read this on the site on Tuesday which was strange as they dont usually update the site until thursay!

I wonder how stephen will do; though why do we need 4 presenters anyway? Hopefully Tess will get on with Stephen I felt that out of all the presenters over the past 18months; brian was the only one she truly got on with; this weeks show wont be rite without brian tho!

Also on the website it says that EMINEMMERDALE makes a welcome return! WHERE ARE THE NEW IDEAS?

I only hope they have new ideas for september; just because it may be finishing in dec doesnt mean they should go out without a fight!

SMTV is like The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. When Jay took over from the legendary Johnny Carson the show still had the look and feel of the previous host. It wasn't until Jay changed the set and the features that it had his stamp on it. If SMTV is still to work, which personally I doin't think it can, they need to move away from the Ant and Dec style and features and do something new.

One more question why did Katy Hill leave Live and Kicking was it to do with some sort of scandal?

I always though it was that she couldn't be bothered to fly to Scotland each week to present.

The original new look series of LIVE & KICKING in 2000 was due to end in april 2001 as it always had. It was NIgel Pickard (then CBBC head; he hadnt been at it long) that came in and said that it should go 52 weeks a year to compete with his creation SM:tv LIVE. Katy Hill was offered more money to become a UK entertainment correspondant my a foreign TV company; and so left in april 2001. Heather Suttie took over; as BBC Scotland always put a Scotish presenter on; if they can!

The relaunched LIVE & KICKING was great and showed how you can escape an old brand, and recreate something new. I really enjoyed it; though I was a teenager; I felt that it was aimed more at the teenage market than kids like it had been before. BBC Scotland changed it; not in presentation but separated it into 3 which included TOON & KICKING which was carTOONs and related competions; main Live & Kicking; which had sketches, guests, competitions and quizzes; then LIVE & LOUD; a music format that was trying to beat cd:uk.

The new LIVE & KICKING was well produced. If left it may have been able to beat SM:tv; the problem was at the time SM:tv was at its peak; with great comps; great sketches and ANT, DEC & CAT!
