Wherein I think lies the problem. SM:TV was targeting older age groups as well as kids, and that's one of the main reasons for its success. In 2001 SM:TV was getting over 2 million vieiwers- massive for Saturday mornings. One of the things about Sat Morning TV is you get teenagers & adults watching as well as kids, if you aren't targeting the older people you might have problems
Well i do think it is good that their trying to attract younger viewers however I do think they should try and attract teenagers as well. I do agree that ITV are going too far at trying to attract the under12s because they should still try to attract the teenagers aswell but at least its something different to SMTV. Just remember its not a ratings flop yet until BARB release their ratings although it probably will be knowing ITV's luck. Rolling Eyes

I only caught the last half hour of the show and it was okay, nothing spectacular, it probably relied too much of the Tiswas / WOW format, being of course the Custard Pie and really the show is supposed to be about madness, something which a child under the age of 12 would find interesting, but for anyone over that age it wasn't interesting. But the presenters were alright but of course it is being aimed for the target audience which is children, not teenagers or adults.

The only part I found funny is when Stephen Mulhern put a custard pie on that little sh*t from S Club 8.

Does anyone have a video clip of that, it sounds like it was the best bit?

I agree with the fact that MoM should be aimed at slightly older children. I think that I may end up sticking to watching Dick & Dom.

I don't know really, It didn't realy seem like it was that much to me. It didn't even strike me with the same feeling that the first SM:TV did, I was hooked on that instantally, I'm not really hooked on this. It doesn't seem to have what Live & Kicking and SM:TV had what made it so sucessful. There must be a bucket of varnish on the set as the presenters are so wooden and I think a lot of the acts on the show- the "carrier pigeon", the "agents of mayhem", the identical twins on the phones, the dwarf security guard , the German scientist etc.. will get boring very quickly. While it IS better than Dick & Dom, I don't think the format as it is has very much potential and short of some major tweaking I don't think it will be very sucessful. And I didn't really like that Tutenstein cartoon either, bring in something popular from one of the big kids channels I say. Unless there are some signs of improvment over the next few months, all I can say is- Bring Back SM:TV, though I won't be suprised for this show to become a Carbon Copy of it anyway.

I'll give it a few weeks to make a proper desision as they're bound to make a few tweaks & changes over the next few shows, but I doubt it will get much better.

This is interesting James that you have put your case forward that the show is rubbish and bring back SM:tv, when earlier in this thread you said...

I think no matter how bad the first show might be, we shouldn't really pass judgement on the show until about 6 or so weeks in to allow the show & the presenters to settle and for us to get a fair idea of what it is all about.

They should aim more at a family audience, it was ok for teenagers to watch today too, and it was better than the first SM:tv Live, even though that was cheap, they did try and was great compared to the first SM:tv live. I felt that today's show was ok, but needed to be tweaked. It does need sketches, but they also need good people to write them. If they are going to call it the ministry of mayhem, turn it into a ministry.

I like Chris' idea of a cafe, but if it's supposed to be a ministry, perhaps having them doing something in the ministry. I can't think of what, but a cafe sounds a bit wierd, a bit Fully Booked VIP lounge.

I've just finished watching through the last SM:TV again and I noticed that during Fearne & Philip interviewing Ant, Dec & Cat that Philip reffered to the first SM:TV being shown on 18th August 1998- which must have been a wild guess plucked out of thin air seeing as that date was a Tuesday!
Surely they should have had the correct date to hand seeing as they must have the paperwork and stuff to tell them, or at least a 1998 Calendar so thier wild guesses could at least have been on a Saturday!

Another thing I noticed is that when they were talking about how Ant, Dec & Cat got together, Ant & Dec talked about them "giving Cat the job". Did Ant & Dec have more say in the executive/production side of the programme in the early days?

In the early days weren't SM:tv and CDUK made by "Ant and Dec Productions" or something similar, which implies Ant and Dec had a lot of power over the show.

Apparently.. Ant & Dec auditioned at Nickelodeon years ago and were turned down oddly enough.

I think a Saturday show was made for them and they needed a girl in-between.

Does anyone have the opening titles, for those of us who earn a living?

I have the titles, but can't upload them! I should sort that out!

I have been singing the title music all day, I actually think they should keep it but make the rest of the show mayhem. They could easily add more features to the show and not lose any from this week, many times it was just links on the sofa yesturday.

One idea I was thinking of, was to use the breaks in the song for something else rather than to say "Good Morning!"

How about dressing up, and getting kids to dress up and run around too. Get rid of that little lift thing (what's the point of that?), and simple evryone leg it into the ministry at the start of the show, and perhaps one week they could have each presenter dressed up as a different animal that makes that noise in the break of the theme tune.

After watching it back I'm actually enjoying it more, I think it's well produced, but perhaps that's the point. Dick & Dom adlib through the whole show with just games planned.

I don't like the way they have recorded voiceovers for addresses and that holiday to florida, the menu i can understand.

Back to the titles. What does everyone think of the titles? Forget the music, the actual animations?

If people don't like the show then there is always the bed to entertain you. Anyone over 6 who watches Dick and Dom is sad, and if Ministry of Mayhem doesn't suit you then stay in bed, or watch the ITV News Channel. Saturday morning telly is not really meant to be for teenagers; normal teenagers are in bed and even if they are awake the last thing they do is turn on to kids tv. Some adults watch it with their kids, and I think MoM suits adults that watch it with their kids, but it's not meant for teenagers so it doesn't suit teenagers.

Oh I don't know me & my sister (both teenagers) watched it and enjoyed it, we both seemed to enjoy the wierd mad moments with the scientist, stephen fighting the giant cat paw as the sofa moved (i like how it does that!) and stephen shoving a cake in (s club 8's) calvin's face.

You are right there, to be honest as I said in my earlier post MoM is really for kids, ie under the age of 12. I am 16 myself (Well 17 on Saturday) and I didn't get up until 11am on Saturday as it isn't worth getting up for a TV show. I used to love SM:tv when it was Ant Dec and Cat, but that was when I was 13, so you make a point.

When I was in London in June we had to be up early on a Saturday and I was so bored with the TV, as it was the first time in ages I was watching ITV before 10am on a Saturday and it was dull, only interesting if you are young.
