Well, that was a whole load of crap. The introduction was the most cheesy and annoying thing ever, Holly hasn't done much but in the part where she asked if it was her birthday she sounded about 3 years old, and the other presenters aren't too good either. The Ministry itself looks terrible too. I have a feeling this show is going to be a flop!
Here Here Chris. Yawn Yawn Yawn. Yet ANOTHER Saturday morning trio trying desperatly to sound exciting....usual diet of crappy cartoons, dreadfully mimed music and the EVER-SO-OVER-THE -TOP Stephen Mulhern. Why does he insist on shouting at everyone??!!
Can't think where I'vre seen the format before.....Why No73, Whats up Doc, etc etc.
The only team that have cracked that fine line between kiddie and adult humour was Ant & Dec.....put them back on Saturday morning and ITV1 might just clean up again!!
I think most of what I'm going to say has already been said by others in this thread but basically it's watered down SM:TV with even the girl presenter looking like Cat.
When you hear the words Ministry of Mayhem, you expect Mayhem but no, I think I must be watching something like Ministry of Quiteness. There's no passion in what they are doing.
I respect Dick 'n' Dom programme on BBC1, it might not be the best programme in the world but it's different than the usual BBC1 Saturday Morning stuff that was served up for 25 years but ITV, shame on you!
They say kids tv can be patronising but all these ministry extensions they have using. S Club 8 in the Ministry Car park etc. Kids are not that stupid. It's almost going back to days of Saturday Superstore when everything had shop extensions. Is Chris Bellinger behind this programme for sure? I heard rumours that he was but if it does then it smacks Bellinger all over.
Finally the telephone operators on the show, get rid, they are not funny at all!
I watched the last 20 minutes, so I can't really give a full review, but I can't imagine ever wanting to have watched it when I was younger. The ending with that god-awful song was almost embarrassing. The only half-funny bit was Holly falling over.
Not a patch on D&D. Shame really, I used to half-know Michael, and he's a very nice bloke indeed.
cd:uk's dog is lower and squished because it's a 4:3 dog now on a widescreen picture. Nice to see that the titles were made in 16:9 for sept 2001, but only used in widescreen now.
As for the ministry of mayhem. Some funny moments, some dire moments, things need to be tweaked, though I'm going to watch it all back first before I make a proper judgement.
The titles were good (all though the music needs to be louder)
The set was great
the presenters were ok, considering they crap they were presenting, Holly was the best out of the 3, as i expected michael was annoying, altough he and holly were both great in that short britney skit they did.
All in all it wasn't that dreadfull, people seem to be forgeting just how dire sm;tv was when it first started. there was too much emphasis(?) on the ministry eg, the car park thing, and those blokes walking round with foam guns, it's too themed.
the games need working on
all the extra characters are annoying, it's quite a good idea and would work well if they were funny, but they're not.
there were afew mildly funny moments, for instance when stephen taking the piss out of that german blokes accent, and when Holly was advising Tina o'brian on which cake to choose "Now, you character Sarah in corrie, has 2 babies, both by different fathers...so i suggest a bakewell tart"
The show has potential IMO, all it needs is for those characters to be funnier which would provide the comedy, like( trev&simon did on L&K)
Better games, and more short skit's done by the presenters along the lines of that one Holly & Michael did.
really, all it needs is afew tweaks to make it work, nothing drastic like sm;tv did. I can see it working
