No it isn't. The format is very different (and not for the better, IMHO). For example the guests don't have phone ins anymore, the audience have a much bigger role than standing about during performances, music plays a far bigger role than, there are far more inserts and the whole things flows a lot less loosely than it used to (eg. sketch, cartoon, sketch, cartoon, competition, chat, filler etc). It's easy to underestimate just how much it has been influenced by SMTV. In fact I'd say SMTV is more like the old BBC shows than the BBC is!
All ITV are doing is changing SMTV before it gets stuck in the rut L+K got in. L+K 2000 may have been good, but at the end of the day it was a failure ratings wise and still stuck with the old name. It looks like SMTV will end after five and half year which is a very respectable run indeed, considering there's been no breaks.

Thats just what I thought. Why destroy something witha strong brand?
I dont get why executives think like this; if they re work a show; they can actually change a show to suit a new audience instead of creating a new show that turns out like the old one. e.g. the saturday show is now just like live & kicking was.

And who’s making this new show? Carlton and some other company, even though Carlton will take all the credit for it unless it flops then they will blame the other company.
What other kids shows do Carlton make? I know Granada Make loads, but I can't think of any Carlton.

Thats a good point. Carlton in this look of CiTV have made things like mad for it, starstreet & of course produce live CiTV continuity.
Foundation TV have made shows for CiTV: fingertips, globo loco and brilliant creatures as well as basil brush and eureka tv for CBBC.
This has got me thinking if they are planning to use Stephen on the new show; and as the autumn going to be SM:tv gold; they have put him on SM:tv to see how he does; and he seems to be the best one there at the moment; its just of they can get him a good co host. I wonder if its going to be 2 presenters, 3 presenters or even 4. Tho SM:tv only had three as Ant & Dec came as a pair!

It seems to be what BBC and ITV do. Get a show from an independant producer - axe it - make their own version.
I imagine SM:TV Gold will be recorded. Possible Cat will do the links - maybe they could even persuade Ant and Dec to put a day in the studio.
Also, is this for the whole autumn or just for a few weeks in the run up to Christmas.
I don't think aiming the new show at 4-12 year olds is a wise move. Saturday mornings need a show for all the family - like SM:tv in the early days. I'd like to see a show more orientated at boys with the emphasis on sport rather than pop. Anyone remember Turnstyle on C5?

If you were aiming it at 4 year olds you'd have to have stuff like bloody Boobahs and Tiny Planets on it, neither of which I can stand (although of course I'm not really the target audience...)
I can really see ITV getting caught between two stools on this one though. Remembering back to when I was small, I only watched TV in the morning from about 6 until half eight. I only started watching "proper" Saturday morning television when I was about thirteen (and even then only in the holidays, bloody Saturday morning school...). They should leave the kiddy stuff to GMTV on Saturdays.

Agreed. Its too wide a age range to fill. I doubt it will have stuff like tiny planets on; and even though they say it will be aimed at 4 years olds i doubt they really want that! Could u imagine phone in games with 4 year olds playing?
It should be a family show; when SM:tv started i was 13; and throughout it all ive watched it with my sister, my mum occasionally for bits and my nan's watched it all the way through all the time!
I wonder what they are going to call it? Morning Glory; ch4 didnt use it; they chose RI:SE. The BIG BIG Saturday Morning Bonanza. Or maybe something a bit street; wicked!
I believe its gonna be coming from maidstone like the old shows; hopefully we'll have some of the magic of the old shows like motormouth, whats up doc and wow! Hopefully they may get Rusty Lee back on tv like the motormouth days! Ah my early childhood! I still have a motormouth rusty lee recipe sheet for halloween ginger bread biscuits!

Don't forget for about a year and a half Carlton had their own kids channel, but it was only available on On Digital.
AFAIK Carlton London has made few shows for CITV, I remember they made a TV Version, of Old Bear in 1993, which was rather nice for a 6 year old child. It is more likely to be made by Carlton Central IMO, if they aren't using London, I'd assume Nottingham.
Though I like the idea of SM:tv Gold, more highlights from the Ant, Dec and Cat days, I demand a repeat of Chums! I am glad they have kept CD:UK, but it will need a revamp, as it should no longer be linked to SM:tv, with that look, maybe moving it from 11.30am to a later time (As Discussed) would be a good idea.

It would be good to move cd:uk to a later time; sort of the time that itv2 repeats it on saturday afternoons; theyve only been showing films; it also means that people not interested in the music that totp saturday will be playing will flick to itv1.
As I said the new show is expected to come from maidstone kent where the main saturday morning shows came from. Though i'm liking the idea of something new; i'd prefer to see a double year thing going on again instead of the same show all year round.
BBC One are going to be apadting this soon with dick & dom from sept - april and the saturday show april - sept. Although Im convinced that they have it the wrong way round. When The Saturday Show returns in april will it be from glasgow or has that deal now finished?

I first watched SM:tv when they started showing Pokemon. I was about 12. Perhaps ITV need to get the rights to some great programme to make viewers switch back to SM:tv : for example the next big American sitcom.

The next funniest US sitcom has been 8 simple rules for me; its hilarious. It seems like they chose the wrong one; even though thats so raven is great.
As from tomorrow they are showing the flinstones. i presume this is the old cartoon series as i aint heard or seen of any other bar the films!
I have watched SM:tv from the very first episode; I actually like it when they had no audience and rubbish sketches and the old music! The earliest I have on tape though is episode 3; I cant find or Ive recorded over episode 1! Damm! Even tho episode 1 only went through till 10:40 with cd:uk till 11:30 (due to the grand prix!)
