From what I've seen, Stephen has been an excellent addition to SMTV. He comes across as being very likeable, as well as entertaining and funny. I really do hope he becomes a permanent fixture - him, Des and Shevaun will all work very well together I think.
But PLEASE change the titles and graphics! In the Ant and Dec era, they had really good titles, and the really small light blue graphics were good in that they didn't look too childish.
More sense than you think. Brian Dowling has gone, Tess Daly goes in December. Shevaugn and Des are too inexperienced. Stephen Mulhern has been brought in already, but who do you think they could get as fourth presenter? (female) I can't think of any loyal prenters they could use...
They don't need a fourth presenter. Three would work fine, just like SM:tv used to have.
I think they have the mix right now:
Ant: obviously a bloke
Dec: a bit camp
Cat: the dads like her
and now
Des: obviously a bloke
Stephen: a bit camp
Shavaugn: the dads like her
They need a less patronising set and titles. I was watching TSS and noticed that their set was almost exactly like the old SM:tv set of the early days! Bring it back!
She leaves on the 24th, I think! It was good to see her & Brian dowling back together on that show at 12:30 last saturday. They worked well together; and watching everybody crashing was fun!
If or when Shavaughan comes back; the three of them good work well together; as long as Stephen is going to stay around. IF itv are planning a replacement; they may want to save Stephen for that; after how good he has proved on SM:tv.
If Tess leaves on the 24th it would tie in with a move to Riverside on the 30th as it says on the Applause Store.
Also notice how the cd:uk logo on the Applause Store is a reworking of the current logo and background; it could just be for the website though!
Thats just what I thought. Why destroy something witha strong brand?
I dont get why executives think like this; if they re work a show; they can actually change a show to suit a new audience instead of creating a new show that turns out like the old one. e.g. the saturday show is now just like live & kicking was. The new itv show will turn out to be just like SM:tv.
I like the sound of SM:TV gold; and how they are not just doing like This morning have been doing and just showing old clips; instead it says that they are doing live links and games. I'd like to see classic games being bought back but live. Though you could never bring back splatoon without ant & dec! Id like to see them re run chums as a series instead of thats so raven and mix new live sketches with old sketches and new games; etc.
I wonder if they are gonna keep stephen des & shavaughan on for the gold series; and I hope they bring back the old titles!
"The new show, which has yet to be named, will include games, sketches, music and acquired programmes. "
Isn't that SM:TV ?
I can only think that across the board (BBC and ITV), that producers are running out of ideas for new Saturday morning entertainment. I look forward to hearing someone saying they're going to try a totally new format outside that which programmes like Tiswas and Swap Shop generated...
I heard that this new programme is going for the 4 - 12 year old age group. What will entertain those over 12?
They have only commisioned the new show for a year; and have re commisioned cd:uk for the same period; so in theory they may have a clean out january 2005. It would be nice to see something thats new and original; but there's nothing new that can be done to a live format. SM:tv from its 2nd year focussed a lot around sketches to fit between programmes. It'll be a good change to see something new; but then you end up missing the old theme tune of a programme and sit there thinking its just the same witha different name.
Dick & Dom will be different for mainstream as it has no audience (though they may change this; doubt it though!); no proper script just a list of games and features that they fit in.
What can they call their new show?
Unless they are going to go back to the days of any random word mashed; wow; tricky!
Wow! was quite a good show and was too old for the audience i felt; the humour seemed to go over kids heads!
I presume the new show will end up being very much like SM:tv. I wonder what the target audience will be? With Woody Woodpecker and Scooby Doo I would presume TSS is aimed at younger children, so is there a gap for teens? Annoyingly, it appears it will be aimed at 4 - 12 year olds. I can only hope they will retain the sexual innuendo that SM:tv has at the beginning which made it so entertaining for adults too.
There is nothing wrong with SM:tv at the moment - the children still love it (to an extent). The ratings decline is however likely to be due to the lack of adult humour. Kiddies would get up and watch SM:tv and their parents would join them. If the parents now find SM:tv unfunny, they will leave and get on with their weekend chores. SM:tv is not failing to entertain the kiddies though.
I expect the name to be something random like "Saturday Wildfire".
