How are ITV meeting what I thought was their 8 hour a week commitment to childrens programmes after next week ? As far as I can tell the World Cup and films are replacing the mid afternoon slot, and with Saturday Showdown gone there only appears to be half an hour of programmes on Sunday.

I take it that the 8 hour figure is an average over the year and not a requirement for each week ? Or is relaxed during the World Cup ?

I expect it is an average over the year, for example I doubt they provide the full 8 hours over Christmas.
Also it won't necessarly be the entire World Cup where CITV is missing from ITV1's afternoons. There's only 2pm kick offs for the first 2 weeks
