Even though there's a CITV channel launching soon we still have some bleating about how it shouldn't be happening and I can't see why. Where's the loss? TV has moved on as already said and I say for some here to move on and possibly stop brooding on the past and sub-par shows (I do mean you saturdaymorning. 2003 is over, move on with your life!)

If ITV was serious it could park Pasquale at around 1720 and run Children's TV programmes from 1530 > 1720.

You can try and fight it people but it's over, no matter how hard you or indeed the children whine about it, itv will take it whatever way they want and only money will stop it.

face it

LOVE IS OVER.

erm, has everyone forgotten that the CITV Channel starts in around 5 weeks time?

What people forget is that CiTV (on ITV1) is there as a Public Service, something that all ITV stations agreed to when the licences were last done, this process obviously has been reviewed many times over the past years. ITV see CiTV as a loss, of course it is, it doesn't pick up the viewers and it is a burden on ratings. ITV is currently getting away with producing the bare minimum to apply with the rules of Ofcom. If it was up to ITV then CiTV would never have anything new on it ever again.

Where as the new CiTV Channel has no PSB values to it (probably except for Subtitles and Sign Language) then ITV can do what they like with it, which is probably what's going to happen, they'll just show cheap and popular programmes ad-nauseum, obviously for the money.

If ITV did want to reduce the amount of Kids programmes it produces then they would probably go to Ofcom and ask for another cut, but this would be mentioned again and probably recieve alot of bad press for ITV cutting more PSB value from the channel. The likely scenario I can see is CiTV moving to 3.00pm until 4.30pm, as there is a very low audience share at that time. The most popular programme in that slot is probably Murder She Wrote on BBC One. ITV probably doesn't have a ratings winner at 3.00pm, so why not move CiTV to this slot? And it also gives them a 25 minute head start over CBBC.

If it does move to 3.00pm then I can see more programmes for Younger Children being shown, as most kids aren't out of school at 3.00pm, plus AIUI programmes for Tots do better for ITV (and the BBC) than the stuff aimed at older kids.

CiTV has always been a loss-making part of the schedule, for reason that have already been explained. In fact some bigwig at ITV said once that if it wasn't for the clause of providing children's programming having written into the franchise agreement, the service would have been dumped many times over by now.

Its been pretty obvious since the last major relaunch that there's no interest, love or affection for the CiTV service that there once used to be and the quality of the programming and the links continues to go downhill. There are new programmes coming through but when your budget is close to about 20-30% of what CBBC gets, it doesn't take a genius to work out what eventually happens. Even the website takes all day to load on a broadband connection sometimes.

That's not to say that CBBC is any better; its currently being propped up by XChange, and the CBBC channel lives on XChange, The Stables, Blue Peter and Basil Brush.

Oh goody, MPAA marathons. Be fun to see how long the CiTV channel lasts, though it may have an advantage on Freeview seeing as it looks like it'll be free to air and its only competition then for most users will be CBBC and CBeebies.

The parallels with Nickelodeon will be interesting, considering the channel seems to have bought up most of CiTV's recent back catalogue at the moment.

They did this at Christmas. It moved back pretty sharpish after that. Anyway the service was rotated backwards in the schedule for years - 3:30pm-5:15pm to 3:15pm-5pm. Now its just had 15 minutes chopped off.

Doubt that, considering I can go stand in the bus station at 2:45pm and bear witness to a whole bunch of kids of varying ages in full school uniform on the way home. The school near me now finishes at 3pm - when I was there ten years ago it was 3:35pm finish.

Basically it appears the Pasquale version of The Price Is Right will be going out in the 4.30pm slot (until 5.15pm), according to an article on MediaGuardian, this will apparently be on the same week that the CiTV Channel launches. But it appears that the some members worst fears will probably happen in that CiTV will probably be cut back to an hour a day.

But ITV are within their right to do this, Ofcom rules at the moment state that ITV have to have at least 8 hours of Childrens programming per week, currently ITV are showing 11 hours, so taking 2 and a half hours from this per week will still mean that ITV are still doing over the bare minimum.

Nothing has been confirmed from ITV yet, but this is the likeliest scenario until this is confirmed from ITV.

This crap sickens me, and maybe CITV wouldn't be a loss making venture if they adctualy went out of thier way of not being made of suck and fail.
'cause it's been on a very slippy slope since they canceled Reboot all those years ago and they haven't gotten back since, they came close with Digimon but then chickened out again after episode 1 of Tamers, the best of the four series.

Cause apprently if it's not some dumb as fsck comedy, it's not worth looking into and it's this mantra that has caused a lot of suffering for all concerned.

Does anybody have a link to the news story. I've only seen it referred to. I was wondering, surely this Joe Pasquale show will only be on a few weeks, they they'd have 90 mins to fill opposite Paul O'Grady

Is it me, or are you obsessed with all these action cartoon series? The fact is, most kids aren't interested in these sort of shows anyway, which is the reason they're not shown. I hated them, all my freinds hated them, all the kids I know now hate them.
