And also the hours cut at the weekend to allow ITV4 to show live sport in the afternoons (because it has to be on ITV4, can't use ITV2/3 now can they!), meaning CITV ends around 12.30pm.
ITV executive chairman Michael Grade has also indicated that it was unlikely it would be investing more money in the kid's channel, saying it did not make "commercial sense."
There we are then. CITV will be gone before we know it.
I think they should rename ITV4 to ITV Sport Channel and bring back Men and Motors to Freeview.
But of course its easy to say that not knowing the facts.
Is any of this actually news though it's been known about Art Attack and the other shows not being recommissioned for ages. The fact they're cutting back on CITV hours isnt surprising at all.
Not really surprising News at all, considering the fact that ITV made it clear by shutting down 'ITV Productions Kids', as I see CITV Channel's ratings aren't too bad, but it's probably cheaper to run through imports and repeats really, which is what it has been.
There haven't been any new episodes of Art Attack for a while now, so it's nothing really big. Saying that I wouldn't have thought that Neil Buchannan would be too bothered as he's made millions from the programme.
It's sad it's come to this, but if Childrens programmes can't make any money for ITV, why bother making them and thus lose money?
Saying that, what ever happened to the show they comissioned (sometime ago) with Rod Hull's Son and Emu?
Thing is children can be easily entertained by repeats and imports. They'll often go 'oh, this is the one where...' and then go off into an in-depth explanation of the plot which they know inside out. So broadcasters obviously can't be bothered to spend proper money on it any more now they've realised that fact.
Well, that's not one I think the nations children will miss.
ITV used the CITV channel in a big way when conning OFCOM into cutting the hours on ITV1, so OFCOM really should have transferred some of the responsibility over to the CITV channel IMO to produce a certain quota of home grown programming each year.
