I always remember there being a real buzz about CiTV when it got real presenters in 1998, best years were Steven and Danielle for me, when I was growing up.

I was 8 years old and honestly can't remember any of the promotions. I was shocked when after half term there were presenters and no longer just a voice. Definatley agree CITV was at it's peak when it was Stephen and Danielle were fronting it

I can't remember exactly but I think it was something to do with a CiTV town or something on the launch trailers.

The CITV town was a continuity device they used towards the end of the Steve Ryde voiceover era.

The trailers featured a spaceship (or something similar) encroaching on the CITV Town with a voiceover saying “they’re coming”. The Friday before Stephen & Dannielle bursted through a screen with the CITV town set in the background with the voiceover changing to “they’re here”.

Adding presenters definitely added an energy to the strand, with Stephen & Dannielle being the perfect pick.

No. If my memory serves me right it was more a presence, possibly with notes similar to Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

There was a spaceship Ident, but the one in the image of the TV Ident that had dancing antenna. The blue idents didn’t launch until September 1999.

Wasn't there a few that inspired the Telly Tots strand in 2000?

I actually saw the promotion with the space ship on Youtube a few years back.
Who was the best presenter for CITV? For me definitely Stephen Mulhern.
I've followed his career and i always hoped he would make it prime time

Depends on your era. That's like asking who your favourite Blue Peter presenter was. Somebody who grew up with Christopher Trace for example isn't going to say their favourite presenter is Barney Harwood.
itvblocks, DE88 and BillyH gave kudos

I seem to remember the Sunday morning CITV slot continued out of vision for a few months after the introduction of presenters, though I could be misremembering.

I think you’re right, around the time they were showing Men in Black, etc. They added in vision from the autumn at the latest and usually used the weekend Ident that preceded SM:TV Live for the first 12 months, but didn’t use the spiked variant of the logo elsewhere during the morning. I was a big fan of the September 1998 idents and stings, just a shame that they only lasted 12 months. The Christmas ident and music are particularly a strong memory for me, as seen here in this clip from Christmas Day morning:

The Ident was the only one reused from 1999 onwards and edited with the blue background in December 1999.
