I still don’t understand the design choice for the set change for CITV in 2003. I understand that they wanted to change it up for the refresh of the branding and the introduction of widescreen broadcasts, but the 2003 set took up a lot of the small space that they had and never looked great on screen in my opinion, especially compared with the Jan 2000 - Aug 2003 set.

IIRC CITV didn't go widescreen until very late, well into the 21st century at least. The programmes were widescreen but aired 14:9. I think it was because they were using legacy equipment (which didn't support widescreen broadcasting) and for whatever reason they didn't want to spend the money, as by that point they were having the budget squeezed, to something like a third of what CBBC had.
I can't remember when Central News went widescreen, presumably they went together?
Somebody posted the final live link from Birmingham for CITV on You Tube a while back. Its been a while but pretty sure they mentioned thats been in Birmingham for a few decades. Possibly may have mentioned Central. I would love to see that again if it ever resurfaces.
The presenter said something along the lines of “from the studio here in Birmingham, goodbye” and the camera zoomed into the CITV logo. A nod to it for those who “knew” but very subtle. I recall on here at the time it wasn’t known that it was going - though they had been scaling down in vision for a while (in fact I recall there was an entire afternoon in September 03 out of vision which made many think it had gone then).

They apparently were intending to have a much bigger set built and the plans had all been done, but allegedly they then found out that the budget was being shrunk and the links were on their way out, so had a small part of the originally planned set made with the rest not being done.
I always remember there being a real buzz about CiTV when it got real presenters in 1998, best years were Steven and Danielle for me, when I was growing up.

I never knew that. That would make a lot of sense, however looking at that previous clip looking across from the news side I fail to see where it would go. It would also add up as to why the branding started to unroll, more so on an audio level; from Christmas 2003 the new musical motif stopped being used to be replaced by sound effects.

I was 8 years old and honestly can't remember any of the promotions. I was shocked when after half term there were presenters and no longer just a voice. Definatley agree CITV was at it's peak when it was Stephen and Danielle were fronting it
