Good find with that video Lewis; I liked the look on air from September 2003, but thought that the set design was a bad use of the space, the opposite of the original set in that space in 2000. Look at the amount of alterations to the graphics and set from May 1998 to July 2004, whereas the current logo has been in place since January 2013 and have only had a proper update to idents this year.
Going off on a tangent, it could be argued that the Central News set in that video is a much better, brighter use of the small space that the current pan regional set (even if the giant N sphere was an odd logo choice).
It may be nostalgia looking back, but the 1998 relaunch accompanied a wider boost to ITV Children's department with increased budget and programme commissions under Nigel Pickard.

This look was brought in with the set change to include the metal and neon (I was not a fan myself) to coincide with the launch of the CBBC Channel in February 2002. By the summer the animated letter break stings were introduced. WM, the bubbly ident was introduced when the animated letters came along. For the tots programmes they kept the same animation from earlier in 2002, and oddly kept the out of place audio from the weekend roller coaster ident.
Wait, so the dark blue set - the one directly after the light blue set - was only on screen a few months then? Because I thought it was introduced sometime late 2001 at the same time as the vote for new presenters?
It's not this look is it - introduced after the dark blue set around 2002.

I've known this video for little while now, It really shows an half and half studio when it's done right.

I remember watching that video. No idea what happened to it. A sad goodbye to one of the more memorable eras at CITV as it re-enters out of vision continuity...
I'd say my favourite year of the Gas Street era was 2000. I remember it vividly. The jingles have always stuck in my mind, there were some great shows on. The presenters genuinely looked like they were having a good time.
The final Gas Street link in 2004 was on Youtube some time ago but it's since disappeared. IIRC Andy Jaye said something along the lines of "From our studios in Birmingham, goodbye".

The graphics and lighting changed to a darker shade of blue in the September 2001 with David, Leah & Leigh joining as new presenters. The crab and space ship hanging designs were replaced with a mobile phone and laptop. This is seen in the video below:
The following year, early on they changed the set opting for the back ground, adding metal beams, neon logos, etc. This set then stayed in place until the end of August 2003.

You’d expect nothing else from Wesley Smith.

When ITV aired the 30th anniversary documentary at the end of 2012. Wesley Smith was presenting Central News before hand and made a point of mentioning CITV's birthday and the fact it was once broadcast from the same studio. Which was a nice little tribute I thought.

Being born in 2000, I grew up with a lot of CiTV from 2002-early 2013, (stopped watching it regularly by then), mainly to watch my doses of Thomas the Tank Engine, Horrid Henry, and Angelina Ballerina. I did grow up with some stuff while they were still located at Central's Gas Street Studios until July 2004, but my memories are quite vague, so bare with me.
My favourite era has to be the one with the CGI bouncing letters idents from October 2002-August 2003, produced by Hibbert Ralph Animation, there was just something so creative and amusing about them in a way I just can't put my finger on, the presentation I think was on par in terms of quality with CBBC/CBeebies' presentation at the time in my opinion, I even think the metallic/neon set looked cool, though I do prefer the older jingle they used until it was changed at the end of March 2003;
I even liked the 2003-06 era, (I remember it more after they got rid of the Gas Street in-vision continuity in July 2004, which I didn't mind too much, I was too young to care), I remember the "itv1" to "CiTV" bumpers introduced before the strand begin, which I believe got introduced after in-vision continuity was scrapped?
I loved the bumpers used starting in 2005, featuring the trio of mice, Hickory, Dickory and Dock, produced by Second Home Studios. I much prefered them as stop-motion characters before they became CGI to coincide with the launch of the CITV Channel in March 2006;
And the 2004-05 Christmas presentation was glorious;

I was in hospital when the change happened. Still remember the relaunch teaser, a blimp or balloon overshadowing the CITV town. "They're coming!"
