I'm sure I heard a Ken Bruce listener had told their kids that "when I was your age, all TV was black and white, and when your Gran was your age there was no television." After a pause the kid asks "Did she have to watch it on the internet?"!
I may be one generation out here......

My nephew doesn't even believe me when I say that when I was born there were only 4 national channels (although only just, C5 was just about to launch a few months later).

We had only one, BBC, I can just about remember the additional aerial being put upon the roof to get the new fangled Southern TV in 1958. I remember BBC2 starting quite vividly although I had to go round to a school friends to actually watch it. Must have been quite early on as I remember seeing Hullbaloo and Custard.

As for TV in the north of Scotland in 1954, she can't have seen it live, it must have been a VHS recording.

A VHS recording? In 1954?
You are Emmett "Doc" Brown and I claim my £5.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think you’ve missed another joke about historical inaccuracies Wink As obviously in 1954 she would have been watching it on a DVD.

Indeed, and I’ve always assumed Marconi knew his transatlantic radio signals were being received OK in Newfoundland, because they sent him a Whatsapp ?

Just watched The Crown S2 E5

1957 the Lord Altringham affair

Two UHF TV aerials on rooftops in London ( 7 years too early)

ITN. Independent Television Network <facepalm>

HM and co watching ITV at Balmoral, ( not possible until 1961)

The Queen’s 1957 ( and first ever) Christmas Day TV Broadcast being a live OB ( was it ?)

They did get Robin Day ( the Michael Crick of the 1950s) pretty well spot on

The Queen's 1957 Christmas Broadcast was an historic event, as it was the first to be televised. It was also the 25th anniversary of the first Christmas Broadcast on the radio. The broadcast was made live from the Long Library at Sandringham, Norfolk.

1958 was also done live and 1959 was the Queen's first pre-recorded message.

I think Her Majesty's 2002 broadcast (not the Christmas message, the one she did not long after she lost her mother and sister) was done live.

I am old enough to remember C4 launching mind...

I skived off the final lecture of the day at Uni in order to be back to my bedsit to see C4 launch.

That’s about as anarchic as my student life got !

When did CITV kill off Invision presenter for a second time? Was its July 2004 because I;m lead to be believe it wasn't until September 2004 when it was moved to Granada and the new idents/pres were introduced.

Are you sure its not SMA Studios who made the Sept 2002-03 idents? As seen here with over 40 being made it seems.
https://vimeo.com/35845041 Hibbert Ralph Animation has made programmes for CITV,

My favourite era has to be the one with the CGI bouncing letters idents from October 2002-August 2003, produced by Hibbert Ralph Animation, there was just something so creative and amusing about them in a way I just can't put my finger on, the presentation I think was on par in terms of quality with CBBC/CBeebies' presentation at the time in my opinion, I even think the metallic/neon set looked cool, though I do prefer the older jingle they used until it was changed at the end of March 2003;

I even liked the 2003-06 era, (I remember it more after they got rid of the Gas Street in-vision continuity in July 2004, which I didn't mind too much, I was too young to care), I remember the "itv1" to "CiTV" bumpers introduced before the strand begin, which I believe got introduced after in-vision continuity was scrapped?

It would have been around 2004 and at or about the time CITV moved from Birmingham when they dropped the in-vision continuity.

In-vision from Birmingham ended in Summer 04, and for the last few weeks of August they went 'on tour' to the different studios of CITV programmes before OOV links started in the September from Manchester. That's how I remember it anyway...

So there was a crossover point where In-vision went out the window but the pres did change until the september, that starting to make sence. Cheers

I have been looking thought that big thread, was the September 2004 the last set of ident to be introduced and lasted until March 2006?

I actually think much of the OOV presentation was introduced in Sept 2003 (when they changed to a white set) although throughout late 04/05 there were some changes and additions to the set.

There was a You Tube video a while back which had the final IVC link which had the presenter walking out the studio or possibly around the studio but mentioned it was the final link from Birmingham.
