There's another programme coming up which looks good.

Since the axing of presenters from Toonattik in 2010, a live studio based show with presenters is a very rare occurrence on CITV.

CHILDRENS: Text Santa: CITV Special
On: CITV
Date: Friday 21st December 2012 (starting in 19 days)
Time: 16:00 to 16:45 (45 minutes long)

This is very interesting - by extending it to kids, it seems ITV is committed to having Text Santa run for quite a few years at least.

Isn't it a bit bogus?
"Children's ITV" was just a rebranding of children's programmes on ITV, which had been a feature of the network since it began.
Is Children's ITV's real significance (from our point of view) that it was the first time that regional names were dropped and network presentation began (apart from the times when industrial action took its toll)?
Production company idents were also dropped for children's programmes before they were dropped during rest of the schedule.

I think that's a rubbish view. As you say yourself, the production company idents didn't last much longer at all, and neither did the vast majority of "regional faces" (although a good few companies kept them to read out birthdays before CITV, which was actually the last in-vision continuity for those regions). Indeed even the regional names themselves eventually bit the dust.

It's a bit of nostalgia for those of us who grew up when CITV was a really decent service. That it was national and didn't feature production company idents was and is neither here nor there.

I guess it's also more than the BBC are doing to mark the end of CBBC on BBC1/2.

I wonder if this programme will hint at more Children's TV productions actually made by ITV in the future? Just a nice little thought that probably won't happen...though I agree with the viewpoint that Children's TV can be profitable via merchandise (and through Children knowing your products are potentially quality in the future).

Sadly ITV (or the TV industry as a whole these days) don't look Long Term very often...as at first it costs £.

In fairness, CBBC on One hasn't been what those of us who grew up in the 80s or 90s remember it to be for some time, with most kids watching the CBBC channel, where the programmes air first and the continuity is live.

Saying that, while the final day's schedule on Two is unexceptional, it closes on One with the CBeebies panto and the Blue Peter Christmas special.

Looks like this programme is being supplemented with a weekend of classic CITV programmes on the CITV channel on 5/6 January.

So far listed on Digiguide are Fun House, Knightmare, T Bag, Count Duckula, Puddle Lane, Children's Ward, Super Gran, Dangermouse, Art Attack, Fraggle Rock, Press Gang & Spatz.

Hopefully there will be some old CITV idents.

Very impressed! Would never have expected ITV to go to all this effort for a brand that's become very extinct as of late.

I shall be sky plussing most of that weekend!

I suspect CITV would do rather well that weekend - a nice reminder of a time when CITV wasn't just about repeating My Parents Are Aliens every day.
