CITV 30th Anniversary

Documentary being made but where is it going to air? (September 2012)

This site closed in March 2021 and is now a read-only archive

Is it not just the case the "Do not use" instruction is due to the fact it was later released on video and therefore the other copy is of a better, remastered quality?

Maybe, but I'd have thought that such a warning would be reserved for things that absolutely mustn't be used. That said, why would they not just delete the record if that was the case?

But there only own the tapes? not whats on them? IE you still have to get permission of sooty s owner aswell?

I think you're getting a little confused. It's not just a case of a company 'owning the tapes' - the storage medium is irrelevant. FremantleMedia own the programmes, as they do everything from the Thames archive, if they didn't own (or weren't otherwise distributing) the programme then they wouldn't have them in their vault or on their sales database.

You do raise a good point about the rights of the current owners of Sooty... you know how a few days ago you were asking what a programme's 'paperwork' was important for? Smile

Judging by the credits, I would have thought that Matthew Corbett would have been employed just like any other artiste on a Thames show (although as he wrote the episodes and owned Sooty he would have been paid more just than an actor) Therefore nowadays any repeat would mean a payment as part of the this contract.

However who actually gets that payment today depends on what the deal was when Matthew Corbett sold Sooty, i.e. it'll either go to Matthew or the current owners of Sooty. I suspect the former.

How come both episodes of Spatz shown here contain the same preview for the next episode at the end?

Final top 10 ratings have been released by BARB - Dangermouse tops the list (wasn't it the oldest show in the entire weekend?) with Sunday 10:50am-1:30pm being the peak of viewing time. In general everything's about 200k up from your usual Horrid Henry domination:

1 DANGER MOUSE (SUN 1133) 578
2 BUTTON MOON (SUN 1053) 503
3 RIDDLERS (SUN 1105) 474
4 FUN HOUSE (SUN 1330) 472
5 SOOTY & CO (SUN 1201) 460
6 HOW II (SUN 1224) 458
7 ROSIE AND JIM (SUN 1117) 455
8 FUN HOUSE (SAT 1332) 455
9 FILM: THE RAINBOW (SUN 1033) 434 ( BARB's mistake, not mine Razz )
10 SOOTY (SAT 1202) 426

Disappointed for lack of Knightmare but it was shown just out of that main few peak hours...probably still passed 400k but just missed the top 10.

How on Earth did they get this confused with Bungle, George and Zippy? That film is not CITV fare! Laughing

I wonder if CITV could get away broadcasting some of the archive content for the new generations? during the 80s and 90s CITV had stuff from 70s! and Scooby doo is still getting away with it.

Cartoons from Cosgrove hall, could do rather well.

Nick Jr was showing archive stuff after 9pm until fairly recently. Button Moon, Ivor the Engine, The Clangers, Rainbow etc

Be nice if they could take maybe two hours away from The Zone which they timeshare with on Freeview and use it to show a few more old classics. As has been said many a time in this thread the only time a lot of this archive would rate well is during a special event like that weekend but I bet a number of the programmes they aired could be a success on the channel if the full series was played out.

It'll be interesting to see if Challenge respond to the popularity of the weekend. They've already said they have the first couple of series of Fun House (although this was probably in the works anyway) but I'm sure they will have seen the ratings and social media reaction to the likes of Finders Keepers and Knightmare, which might encourage them to try and acquire those shows. That's far more likely than CITV showing more of this sort of thing outisde of an anniversary.

Did challenge not show Knightmare a few years ago?
