Although Workhouse seems to have some sort of link to Meridian. I'd guess they ended up based at Meridian as they produced some local programming in 1993.

Yeah sorry about that. I thought it was solely a Meridian production, but quite obviously it isn't. This is Meridian we're talking about after all!
Nevertheless, it's still very interesting to see it as originally intended. Indeed the same storyline was used in the first two episodes of the CITV series which can both be found within Youtube quite easily.
EDIT, I notice on the Fremantlemedia Sales website the original episode is called 'DO NOT USE SUPERDOG' and there's two others at the bottom called 'SUPERDOG' and 'SUPERDOG AND THE COMEDIAN'..... intriguing!
According to TheSootyShow.Org, the one marked "Do Not Use" at Fremantle is the original broadcast edit (code 31226) and the later one with code 128637 is an edited version which may be because of the theme or for music clearance reasons. This may also apply to Superdog and the Comedian. Comedian is on DVD under the "Sweep Superdog" title released on 2001 (may not be the original broadcast) and the 1985 Superdog episode with different music to original broadcast was on the Cult Kids Classics 2 DVD released in 2008.

Thanks for that. If it's a music issue, I wonder if they originally used the Superman theme tune?

Nope there never did, there used that library piece,
Is it not just the case the "Do not use" instruction is due to the fact it was later released on video and therefore the other copy is of a better, remastered quality?

Where does Fremantle come into this? I take it there only control the Thames series?
