Good, strong, intelligent storylines for the dramas, something that modern children's TV just doesn't have. Even some programmes for grown-ups isn't as good.

It personally annoys me when people make generalised statements like this. I agree that not ALL children's dramas these days are worth writing home about, but if you were to watch the most recent series of Tracy Beaker Returns (to use one example) I think you'd find it was definitely full of good, strong and intelligent storylines. It can also be quite hard hitting at times and isn't afraid to tackle issues. Sure, there are lots of dramas and comedies that aren't up to the same level, but that's always been the case and they'll be quickly forgotten.

It's too easy to criticise modern children's TV when you have a much better knowledge of "classic" children's output.

Back on topic, I absolutely loved this weekend's output on CITV. I don't think it would work regularly, but as an annual 'event' I think there's definitely scope to do the same again.

Also you have to consider the reduced age range in kids tv these days. We dont have Dramarama but we do have the likes of Hollyoaks which highlight similar issues. older children use other outlets for drama these days.

Also don't forget, these shows have been cherry picked for a reason. There was an awful lot of tripe back in the day too.

Plenty of good stuff not included though; Max's Millions, Bernard's Watch, Mopatop's Shop, Zzzap!!, Tots TV just to name a few off the very top of my head.

And to all those asking for SM:TV - quite apart from the rights with all the cartoons/music etc, much better to stick to lots of smaller shows than have that take up 2 hours. Those standalone Chums edits could have worked, though.

It did? I remember when there first started steaming show daily, Chums was one of them at 5pm?

Was referring more to the chances of them appearing in the Old Skool Weekend - Chums re-edits from 2001-ish would have been much more likely than full episodes of SM:TV

Other shows which could have been given an airing, this is off the top of my head: Emu pink windmill, Avenger penguins, How dare you, Chorlton, Thomas the tank engine, Dream street, Trap door. Dr Zitbag.

Here is a list aswell, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_programmes_broadcast_by_CITV

Does not look there was much crap,

Thomas the only one on that list that I'd say deserved a slot at the weekend, but I suspect that was a rights issue as I think C5 have the rights to Thomas.

Am I right in thinking that The Singing Kettle was broadcast on CITV back in the day? Or have I just dreamed that somewhere?
