did it move to Glasgow when STV took over? Just realised it surely must be University Challenge style as otherwise you'd fall out the front of the upstairs

Good news, it seems most of the shows are on ITV Player!

And it just occurred to me there is a staircase, there was a shot back from an upstairs room and it did appear open to the audience. I'm now confused.

The series was moved from Studio 2 of maidstone around 1994 or 95 to Glasgow but the set was to big and had to be changed a bit to fit in. after series or two it was axed.

STV had an office in Maidstone from 1991 - 1995

Aha. there is a barrier, you can see it during the credits as the room lights flash.

I wonder if these days STV would have just kept it at Maidstone and rented the space from TVS.

To be fair, the Worst Witch is pretty recent compared to most things shown. Even that episode of Funhouse didn't look massively dated considering its age, apart from prizes like the Sega Megadrive prize.

By the way, which copied which - The Worst Witch or Harry Potter? Razz

The Worst Witch was first by a long way- the first book was published in 1974!
The TV show, however, was riding the waves of the Potter phenomenon, as it started two years after the first HP book was released. It certainly worked, as the show lasted several years and had two spin-offs.

It started just over a year after the first book was released, and started a couple of months after the second book was released in the UK. I think that it was still a bit of a punt - the "phenomenon" hadn't taken off fully at that point, or at least at the point of commissioning.

Full channel, No remember some of the stuff come from the usa, like Tiny toons, Animaniacs, Ducktales, STV duing its WNKD@STV broadcast a tone of older classic series shown on CITV.

Sunday afternoon block 4-6pm? that has a chance.

I think it would be better suited to ITV3 IMO.
