I was never really a Children's ITV fan, I'd watch some programmes on it but don't remember ever really engaging with the bits between.

That was my exact experience, too. I have vivid memories of watching programmes shown as part of Children's ITV, including Thomas the Tank Engine, Fun House and Rainbow, but I have much stronger memories of the continuity on Children's BBC: Andy Crane, Andi Peters, Edd the Duck etc. Maybe the continuity on Children's ITV wasn't as good and so is not as memorable?

I found this on You Tube - final in-vision links from Birmingham:

Not the final in-vision ever but the last from the studio. There is a small acknowledgement of it being the end. but it's very subtle!

Haha, that's great!

Looks great, definitely elements from 1983 to 1989 and 1991-1998 - can't see any elements from 1989 to 1991 when Jeanne Downes, Jerry Foulkes and Scally the dog were mostly presenting or when in-vision continuity returned in 1998 when Stephen and Danielle took over. Otherwise, great.

The logo is very well created, including elements of most, even the dancing sausage from 2006.
I agree with the Tommy Boyd change of presentation, even the graphical elements with the sun & moon in the background always seemed odd for Children's programming.
I would why central went from cool presentation pre stonewall to the tommy Boyd style after regaining the contract.

Right, let's just clear up any confusion.

The plane and coloured tailwind I can't identify - the four stripes are in the wrong order for 1983.
The four stripes behind the text are from the 1988 ident.
The type face for Old Skool Weekend is that of the Children's ITV logo used in all idents from 1983 to 1988.
The sun and moon are from the 1991 package.
The two cars are from a 1997 ident.
The crab is from the 1998 package.
The sausage is from the 2006 package.
And of course, the CITV logo itself is the current one, which will be replaced about a week later.

The following idents aren't represented at all.
1989 generic
1989 Stonewall
2004 set

No, January 1985 to September 1987 was the era of the "Network Control" set and animated title sequences.

Off the top of my head, the spaceship gimmick was only used for a few months in 1983; by the Autumn, the original logo was being used with a star-lit backdrop, seen at 2:21 here:

...then in 1984, the music used until September 1987 came into use, but with a basic slit-scan style sting seen at 0:20 here:

What happened there? Obviously it was after I outgrew childrens' telly, but it appears from what I've read that the presenters continued on-location over the summer, and then signed off as normal on a Friday only to never return. Were they given notice and just told to keep quiet?

Also notable, that studio in those links must have been relatively new still - was it a temporary setup (it looks very plain!)? Was the intention to get a studio in Manchester?

Children's ITV - Idents Montage (1989 - 91)

Remember

Stonewall Productions
From 3rd April 1989, the independent production company Stonewall Productions won the contract to produce Children's ITV presentation. Stonewall Productions was headed up by Michael Jackson, a Central staffer who used his expertise to prepare a suitable application. Whereas Central had restricted links to the station's former in-vision presentation studio, Stonewall chose not to use fixed set but instead presented links from various areas of Central's headquarters at Broad Street in Birmingham and utilised a rotating team of presenters which included Clive Warren (now a DJ), Jerry Foulkes (producer), Jeanne Downs (singer), Jerry Foulkes (producer who left CITV on 22 December 1989) and a large puppet dog called Scally

I assumed the summer links on location were recorded and had probably already been done and in the can by that point.

For example they did a week from the My Parents are Aliens set at YTV, which I expect would have been recorded in a day.

That set was used Jan to July 2004, everything about that look was minimalist and plain. Presumably the writing was already on the wall, and they'd had a massive budget cut.

More to the point, Anyone remember if all the other presenters in the big set said anything in December 2003, that they wouldn't be reappearing after Christmas?

Anyone else remember a massive technical breakdown on CITV during the 1993-1998 out of vision era? They showed this ident-like sequence that featured robots on caterpillar tracks, looking a bit like Johnny 5, moving backwards and forwards along two or three levels of what looked like a factory or a building site. I think there was some music and every minute or so a robotic voice would say "CITV". It looped seemlessly and was on for ages. I hadn't seen it before or since. I'm guessing it was around 1995.
