They could do this every week on ITV1 - it's not like they show anything else of note at the weekends now. I guess if CITV ever went 24 hours classic shows would be an effective way of filling the schedules once the target audience of the channel have gone to bed.

As well as retro programming, I wonder if they will use any retro presentation, different old idents in between each programme maybe?

Maybe even some in-vision continuity? I'm sure Stephen Mulhern would be available at least.

Agreed, that I'd like to see happen. Ditto CBBC, actually.

But who'd watch? I don't think an audience would be there week in, week out watching classic kids shows. As a celebratory one-off I think it's a fantastic idea and may indulge in a bit of reminiscing myself that weekend! But I can't see the appeal of showing them on a regular basis.

Here's hoping they wrap the shows with some in-vision continuity and past pres though.

NickJr used to do something similar

I think an hour or two on weekend afternoons on ITV3 wouldn't go a-miss. CiTV Classics.

Wasn't Noggin the strand on TMF?

The one I'm talking about was most recently on Nick Jr. 2 between 8-10pm, and I believe was called NickJr Classics.

Nick Jr. Classics (formerly Noggin) was a British television programming block that shows every night from 8pm-10pm on Nick Jr. The block was previously known as Noggin, which launched in 17 May 2004. At first screened on Nick Jr., the block moved to Nick Jr. 2 on 5 January 2009. Many of the shows are at least 25 years old. The slot is popular with both the target audience and parents/guardians, many of whom may have watched these shows when they were young children. As of October 2012, the only show that is shown from Nick Jr. Classics is Thomas the Tank Engine which shows on Nick Jr . and Nick Jr 2. They are shown without the 'Noggin' or 'Nick Jr. Classics' block name.

Hope they do use old idents from the 80's and 90's for these shows!! Central must have loads of them stored away in the archives! What about Tommy Boyd - do you reckon he will do some in-vision continuity over the weekend? Or Jeanne Downes? Last time I heard she was living in America and a singer or something like that.

Or is not really worth it bringing in past presenters for 2 days of programmes, most of which will not be appreciated by today's dumbed down kids used to watching endless animations on satellite channels with no real heart or personality? Maybe most young adults will probably miss all these retro programmes as they won't know they're on, or if they do know they're on, may not want to embarrass themselves in front of their families by watching old kids shows. And possibly most kids will think "WTF is this, innit?" as Knightmare comes on etc.

Certainly, I'm not saying this will happen, I am sure that there wil be a wealth of young adults out there will enjoy the weekends output and it would be good if they could repeat these shows on a regular basis - not just for the weekend. To me, it looks like the best day's programming that the CITV Channel has ever put out - but I fear it will not be appreciated by today's modern audience.

PS:- Saying that, Challenge has gone from strength to strength since it was launched on Freeview and that puts out retro shows, so it may be a great success - but only if it promoted widely before the weekend and only if these promotions are on ITV1 during peak time - otherwise, noone will know they are on - apart from us lot on this forum!

That is all. Very Happy

In America, TeenNick does something similar with Nickelodeon's archive, in a late night block called The 90s Are All That. It's 4 hours a night 7 days a week and has been running for the last 17 months, apparently with great success.

As someone who isn't especially a Children's ITV enthusiast but enjoyed some of their older shows, this looks like a great line-up to me - some of their best, without doubt; quite fondly remembered. So, I have to commend ITV for this weekend of classic programmes; in honesty, this is not something I would've expected them to do, at least not to this extent... A very welcome surprise.
