Doing a documentary about 30yrs of CITV , chance for me to get my scrap book out .. anything spring to mind about golden days in kids TV ?

Problem where is it going to air? I doubt CITV Channel will air this and ITV1 won't either. Last time they did it was 2003's Birthday Bash. I think it was shown on a Bank Holiday morning?

I'd say it would have to be ITV 1.

On a Sunday during 'payback' on ITV[1] would be my guess.

It'll be a tough sell making out like CITV has yet to peak.

In comparison to the 2003 birthday bash, there are hardly any ITV commissioned programmes, most are imported, and in vision continuity has been long gone (again). I would like to see the channel do something to celebrate, even if it were to show a block of a few classic programmes over Christmas, or have a similar big party with old faces hosting. I presume like others have said it'll be on ITV1, possibly New Years Day, or that Christmas -New Year period.

I'm thinking it could end up a bit like that Ade Edmondson PIF documentary.

There areso many classic British children's programmes that are no longer repeated, and yet could easily be shown... (some pre-dating CiTV and Watch It) - yes some may seem old now but the stories are still there...

Black Beauty
Worzel Gummidge
Supergran
Mr Majeika
Press Gang
The Return Of The Antelope
Spatz
The Dreamstone
Captain Zed and the Zee Zone
Rupert (the 22 minute version)
Bimble's Bucket
Fantomcat
Children's Ward
Starfleet (which has never been repeated)
Dr Zitbags Transylvanian Pet Shop
Captain Scarlet (both versions)
The Ink Thief
Mike And Angelo
Woof!
The Worst Witch and its sequels
Runaway Bay
Terrahawks
Watership Down

And thats not counting all the so-called pre-school series and cartoons made over the decades....

and many many more

I know quite a few are not held by ITVplc but I it cant be that expensive to get to show - if not cheaper than a lot of the "newer" imports.

a few are held by STV, I dare say there would be happy. Also im sure Spatz is owned by Fremantle.

Yes I'm sure they could be repeated... but would they actually be watched?

I'd suggest that they aren't shown because they won't be, at least not by kids. It's just like when my parents showed me programmes that they watched when they were kids - I wasn't interested.

Even as a nostalgia piece they wouldn't bring in an audience, those who remember them might watch one episode for old times sake but they won't watch a series

I dunno. Not necessarily items from that list, but there's plenty of archive content which should be repeated all the time but never seems to be. Classic Doctor Who springs to mind.

After watching the Birthday Bash vid above, it makes me appreciate how lucky we were to have live presentation and across the majority of channels/stands.

To be fair animations are timeless.....

Look at CBBC showing every single version of Scooby Doo

Or Nick Toons or Boomerang or Cartoon Network shoing cartoons from all eras ad infinitum

Black Beauty was just about my time but that is an endless classic and was actually updated (ok by the Kiwi's then the Aussies) - same fate happened with Worzel Gummidge. Or remember when CBBC showed from the start Grange Hill on Sunday mornings or when they repeated Grandad and Rentaghost on Saturday mornings.

How many more times are CITV going to show My Parents Are Aliens years after it was last made.....

I would say that they have never tried it and as such are "frighetened" of trying it but there are so many classics there which appeal to children of all ages that I think they should be brave and try repeating them. Have to admit that the more "period drama" style drama's would be more a success then a contemporary 80's or 90's drama.
