I don't know for sure, but my guess is to save money, and time in the schedule.

What was their studio, in Brum, is now either Central News West or Central News East!

(Both of those shows now transmit from Gas Street!)

Yes, CITV used to share with Central News West. The studio now has a wall down the middle and has Central News West in one half and Central News East in the other.

After this happened CITV had no studio avaliable to it in Birmingham and it was almost time for the contract to produce CITV was coming up for a re-tender. So they decided on a temporary solution of voice-overs and animation until it was decided what to do next... which will be a co-production with Nickleodeon called INK

The only bit you missed out was the move to Granada's Manchester studios, where CITV has been based since early this year.

I presume this new set-up with Nickelodeon will mean the demise of the CITV brand?

Less than half a million on a good day, putting them 4th and 5th in the terrestrial channels at that time

From the style and way that it's put together nowadays, especially the fact that comps are announced a week later seems to me that it's now pre recorded. So I expect that they bundle it all as a package and it's played out from London or Leeds, though of course I'm not sure.
I would love it to return to live, especially if they are to start a channel at some point.
