The Circle USA - Neflix

Well Netflix just dropped the first promo for the first series of the Circle USA. This series is filmed in Salford using the same production team and the same building in which they produced the last UK version. Hopefully the editing and the production values will be similar to the UK version. I really enjoyed both UK series. It seems like the promo was done by Netflix, which leaves a lot to be desired. One thing I liked about the UK version is that it kept the BlackMirror-esque mystique. We will see if the US version follows the same path. Not sure if this will air on Netflix UK.

The flats are largely the same, except for a few redecoration bits and refreshings. But they basically look the same.





Sadly it doesnt seem they using the same announcer. They are using someone called Michelle Buteau. (She doesnt seem that funny to me, from what I've heard) Its unclear if she is simply just a studio host of if they will forgo the commentary of the incredible Sophie Wilan. I will personally miss her hilarious commentary.

I believe it will be on UK Netflix, in which case it looks very good. I'm happy that the trailer suggests a stripped event from New Year's Day rather than all at once, but we shall have to see!

After this it'll be the turns of France and Brazil to see if they can live up to our version (again filmed/being filmed in Salford)

Why on earth would they use the British narrator? Does Love Island USA use Iain Sterling? No. Does Big Brother USA use Marcus Bentley? No. Sophie is quite hard to understand plus it’s a localised version so it needs to be tailored to that audience.

One of Netflix biggest shows uses regional British accents all the time and no one has a problem with it.

Looks that there is no Circle on UK Netflix unfortunately...



... although the official Netflix UK account says it will be shown. It's only a matter of time.

I guess the Channel 4 thing complicates things, as they have the UK rights to the format. It’s possible that they will show it on All 4 or they might be refusing to pay anymore for it so it won’t get shown at all.

Having seen the trailer, I can’t say I’m too bothered. Who’d have thought that American’s would ruin a perfectly good format.

I'm quite surprised by the love for The Circle here considering we didn't have a thread for it during the last UK run, I thought it passed TVF by.

Too much to hope that the delay for the UK is to reversion it with Sophie doing the v/o?

I presume this is all pre recorded rather than having any live shows and twists influenced by the public which started to get annoying in the second UK series!

Netflix have released an extended cut of Episode 1 onto YouTube. This isn't geoblocked to just the US unlike the trailer.

What's On Netflix shows the UK will be getting this tomorrow but there hasn't been any advertising showing it will.
