Here we go, ITV1 has good autumn schedule winning the ratings everynight with hit after hit. Hardly no mention.

News of a dodgy sounding show is announced, loads of people come out of the woodwork having a go at ITV.

Oh God, stop taking it so personally will you? ITV is not some poorly off baby that you need to cradle and protect, its a commercial television company. If YOU are happy with the quality of television that ITV provides then be satisfied with that and don't bother coming into each and every dissenting thread attempting to play the world's tiniest violin, because you know you will change very few minds.

Carry on like this and you'll send yourself to an early grave due to the astronomical blood pressure you seem to get everytime some not-justified-to-breathe-idiot says something on here.

LOL @ the comments! Smile

I usually agree with Andrew on alot of points and agree that we have all slagged off the idea before we have even seen it on air. BUT - this does seem to be a weak idea IMHO. I will still watch this new programme next year but it doesn't read well as a programme idea.

PS - Yes Andrew ITV have performed really strongly again this Autumn(like they do every Autumn) there have been some strong performances from ITV2,3 and 4 aswell. But we don't want to dwell on that do we???

A couple of weeks ago, I got an audience ticket application invitiation letter in the post from Granada, for Soapstar Superstar.

It didn't mention who would be presenting this new show. Last week, I sent off for tickets, even though the description of the
show printed on the aforementioned letter, seemed like yet another excuse for Granada to get past/present stars of Corrie
and Emmerdale to show how good/bad (delete where applicable) they are at singing, similar to all those soapstar
special editions of Star In Their Eyes, only without the "impersonating your favourite singers" part of the format.

This week, it has been revealed that the extremely annoying has been Cilla Black, is to be the presenter of this new show.

If I'd have known that annoying cow was involved, I wouldn't have bothered to send off for tickets, and that letter would've
been thrown in the bin! Now though, I'm not surprised they didn't mention the presenters name on the invitiation letter,
otherwise they wouldn't have received enough ticket applications, and the recordings would have to be cancelled!

I didn't read it that she was the presenter, but a judge.

Anyone laying condemnation on ITV's latest talent competition want to comment on another celebrity based format on the BBC ?

BBC One is to launch a new show for Friday and Saturday nights in the new year.

In the style of Strictly Come Dancing, celebs will be paired up with the nation's favourite singers to perform live renditions of popular songs.

Called Just The Two of Us, the show will be talent-based, and every week the country will decide via phone and text which couples stay and which have to leave. Each week the double-act with the least number of votes exits the contest.

Featuring a new music style each week, from country to hip-hip, jazz to rock the duos will have to have a broad range if they want to win the nation's hearts.

From what I've read this will be running nightly in January, so I guess it'll go head to head with Celebrity Big Brother.

I just don't think it's a good idea that ITV keep trying to fight like with like. As a Big Brother fan there is no way I would ditch it in favour of something like this or Celebrity Love Island, while I doubt it appeals much to non-Big Brother fans.

The original article says it will be every Saturday night.

Not more Celebrity Big Brother, won't people be tired of that by now, coming so soon after I'm a Celebrity and that Space thing next week

You're going to write to all the millions of viewers who ensure the programmes stay on air?

That's one heck of a pen.

At least SMG will have an excuse to use their old-style Cilla Black ident again. They're running out of celebs that are still on the channel... (not that it's stopped them using them before)

Strangely, ITV appears to have a very similar show lined up:

Cowell makes celebs sing in new talent show

Steve Busfield
Friday December 2, 2005

Simon Cowell is following up on the huge success of The X Factor with another ITV show that features potentially tuneless singing.

The show, created by Cowell's production company, Syco TV, will unite singing stars with celebrities who are not known for their musical prowess. The pairs will perform duets in front of a studio audience.

"Each week the duo will be set a musical theme from which they must learn a new song and each week a panel of judges and the viewers will vote on who did the best job," said a spokesman.

Cowell said: "We have already lined up an incredible cast for this new show. There may be a few raised eyebrows when we announce who we've got."

Nigel Pickard, the director of programmes at ITV, said" "This is a very exciting new format from Simon and the team at Syco TV. We are delighted to be working with Simon on this new project."
