This forum reads like a never ending novel when you've been a member here over 5 years!

Does anyone know if the Doctor Who Christmas ident is confirmed yet. I don't know how they can make it Christmassy and more importantly how will it fit in with the "Circle" theme . As for BBC Two they will probably have a new Christmas ident seeing as they had a "sprite" one two years running. ITV1 will probably reuse last years which was quite good considering them not bothering with one in 2006 and 2007. Channel 4 will probably play scrooge as usual with them not bothering (although I did see a Christmas breakbumper last year but that was from the previous package) saying that they never do any special idents since introducing the package in 2004. Five will probably have a new ident. Away from the idents I wonder when Sky Digital will put on their Christmas background music on the EPG. I assume they will use the ones they have used from the previous two years.

I can't believe the Toys R Us advert is back...the last time the original version was on TV was back in Christmas 2000. I think it was cropped to widescreen that year too but still used the original 80s animation, with a slight edit to include the then-new logo with the star over the R. Those with long memories may remember I posted a distraught thread on this forum back in 2001 when it didn't appear for about the first time in my lifetime!

As for the idents launching...it used to not be until Christmas Eve, but every year for about the last ten years they've kept it on a Saturday, but due to the calendar it's steadily gone further back a day each time. If it continues then next year will be Saturday 11th, then Saturday 10th, etc...I wonder when they'll finally move it forward? Maybe when it gets into November, which by my calculations will be in, erm, 2019...

I'm really sorry for being so pedantic here, but the original Toys R Us advert was on air until 2004. You must've just kept missing it every year because it wasn't shown as often as it used to be.

I have only seen the 'Holidays Are Coming' (although the singers sound like they are saying 'All The Days Are Coming') advert once during The X Factor and I have seen the Toys R Us advert once without talking and once with talking.

Are you sure about that? 2001 I remember they kept the jingle, but the visuals were replaced with some random CGI of the logo coming together, and then there was another one the year after with a CGI store flying through space and onto the ground. Certainly I read through the entire TV Forum thread at the time and no one ever said they'd seen the original that year, everyone just noticing the new one and mourning its loss.

I'd agree that the 'magical place' jingle was probably used until 2004 but I definitely never, ever saw the animated visuals after 2000 on the telly. Sorry to be even more pedantic
