I'd not go that strong on it. True they've redone the animation, rather than clinging to their 20 year old tatty VHS copy, but they've definitely kept the spirit the same, using all the same cliched repeat animation children, not slapping product specific placement everywhere, not updating the logo in the middle of the ad, and even keeping the authentic judder from full screen to that small pane at the end. It's clear it's been done for people from the original generation, but at least if they've gone to that amount of effort there's a good chance they might be keeping it around for a while!
And as mentioned, the Toys R Us advert returned to air this evening. The video quality on this was pretty impressive for its age, with some definite work done to bring it up to date (or possibly even completely re-animated - though that seems a lot of work for a short sequence!)
Ed: See below for comparison. Definitely looks like they're redone all the animation!
I remember spending months looking for this on tape in 2001 when someone requested it... Funny how it's everywhere these days.
I love it! Even the endcap is authentically cheesy. Hopefully the effort they've put in to this means they plan on showing it every year.

The list of times, only covering some showings on the first day (presumably not all, as people have seen it pop up on E4 too) has been floating round Youtube, and apparently was sent out from Toys R Us' mailing list itself (which would make sense, given they had the exact timings for Channel 4's showings).
