I’m probably in the minority, but I didn’t think Bradley’s Blankety Blank was great and actually think the Walliams version was probably the better programme. On paper it seemed like a great match, but it just didn’t seem right.

Same. I thought it was ok but didn’t suit Bradley’s presenting style. And Jimmy Carr was a bit of an annoying guest.

Blankety Blank is more of a gig for Alan Carr I’d say... ironically that’s one of the game shows that he hasn’t tried out.

Actually, isn't there a bikini/nude scene in Christmas Vacation which I noticed is on at 11:25am on ITV. Will that be cut?

It's been shown in the daytime for many years now, we watched our recording of it a couple of weeks ago - recorded from ITV when it was shown one afternoon - and it was still there. Its not really a problematic scene, no more so than many others - think about the famous scene from Carry on Camping for example

The bigger scheduling issue with that film is showing it after Christmas Day when it's a film about getting ready for Christmas Day. Seems a bit odd shown afterwards

They also showed it last night on ITV4. It’s also on Amazon for free. The film is 31 years old and I don’t know how many people are still interested in watching it.

It’s not really a kids film, so it does beg the question as to why it’s not later in the day.

What an odd thing to say, just because a film is old doesn't mean that people lose interest in it.

Home Alone is about the same age, but that too is a regular part of people's Christmas viewing

It's not really an adult film either, it's a PG so a family film. Certainly there's a lot in it to appeal to kids and very little not suitable for them

It’s a 12?

If it was as popular as you make it out to be then it wouldn’t be airing in a morning slot 3 days after Christmas.

Both BGT and Clarkson were under 3m last night by the looks of things, that’s probably put ITV off trying anything like that again.

I would like to see a Christmas Special of Saturday Night Takeaway though.

I’ve just watched last night’s Alright on the Night (I know it was a repeat and may have been discussed elsewhere) but... what a load of garbage. Most of the clips weren’t remotely funny, and rather than a selection of outtakes from different genres such as soaps, dramas, comedy shows etc, about 90% of them were from ITV’s daytime shows and came across as self-promotion - “look how funny we are here at ITV!” Denis will be spinning in his grave!

To be fair, it's only recently a 12, because the original uncut version for a PG-13 rating in the US, with a F word included was resubmitted.

DVD version has been a PG for years with an overdub of that word to 'dancing', and I imagine that's what ITV have been playing for years too.

They did a couple of Christmas Takeaways in the past, one on Christmas Eve 2004 and one on Boxing Day 2009, although as the latter was during the period when Takeaway was being "rested" it went under the banner of Ant and Dec's Christmas Show, though it was still very Takeaway-esque. And it was rubbish, really, being pre-recorded meant all you lose all the stuff that makes Takeaway so good - the liveness, the ad-libbing, the sense of spectacle with all the OBs - and ended up with all the worst bits - the contrived jokes and the ITV cross-promotion, basically.

Britain's Got Talent is a bit like when Dancing on Ice was on Christmas Day a decade ago, and flopped massively, while Strictly the same day did brilliantly. It's not an entirely fair comparison because Dancing on Ice was part of a far weaker schedule on ITV, but you would think if Strictly can do well on Christmas Day, Dancing on Ice would too, especially as the show was in its pomp at the time. But I think it helps that Strictly only finished less than a week ago, so the bandwagon is still rolling - I know it's always recorded before the final, and this year was a clip show - and it feels a bit more relevant, whereas Dancing on Ice, and Britain's Got Talent, finished a while back so it seems like yesterday's news.

In any case, it's hard to say "these figures prove the audience want something new" when the highest rated programme for C4, yet again, was Home Alone 2, ITV's top three was Corrie, Emmerdale and The Chase and Call The Midwife's ratings had gone up.

I know you need to pad out the material as much as you can, especially if you're doing three shows in a month (you were lucky to get three in a decade with Denis) but it might be nice if even one clip would be allowed to play out without Walliams doing a voice-over to explain what the joke was and hammer all humour into the ground.

“Chefs Burnt Bits” rated better than the recent Alright on the Nights have done, as did the recent Corrie and Emmerdale outtake snows, so I’m thinking that’s where the future of blooper shows lies.

It’s clear in this day and age they aren’t strong enough to anchor the main 9pm slot but as a half hour filler earlier in the evening themed about a certain genre, they do perfectly well.

Yes, but to be fair to him he was having to do all the heavy lifting in terms of the panel. With Blankety Blank, you can want people who are a bit more wacky, people like Miriam Margolyes, Alison Hammond and Joe Lycett. Instead you almost had the most generic and arbitrary panel possible possible.

Bradley would have probably worked better with more interesting people too.

I have to say the Christmas telly this year has been particularly poor. I know that 2020 hasn’t been the best year for production due to the circumstances but even the choice of repeated programmes seems weak.

BBC seem to have ‘copy and pasted’ their Christmas Day schedule for the past 5 years now. Rolling Eyes
