Surprised no one has mentioned that for first time, possibly ever, an Australian soap is going all year round. Neighbours being screened on Christmas Day, on Channel 5 (although I am more than certain that BBC1 once showed Neighbours on Christmas Day when UK was about 18 months behind Australian broadcasts) with a Christmas special as Alan Dale reprises the role of Jim Robinson.
Noticed last few weeks the story with Paul Robinson has been leading up to "A Christmas Carol" style storyline, and con firmed a couple of days ago that Alan Dale is coming back as a ghost, due to the character dying of a heart attack in 1993.

YES BBC1 Did screen Neighbours on xmas day for at least 6 years? I think the last time was either 92/93

They did. Lunchtime only though. Eldorado was also aired that day, but it went out at something like 11:30am.
Just been watch Christmas Gold and the Smashie's Christmastasic Playlist and I saw that one of the links mention something about Rolf Harris. I'm not complaining but you would think they would edit it out incase someone complains
Well, that was originally broadcast only last year, so I imagine any reference would be deliberate.

I think Channel five also showed Home and Away on Christmas Day when they were catching up from a year behind.
The nearest to Christmas Neighbours has been in recent years was when Channel Five aired it up to Christmas Eve before taking a break.

Yes they did - but as you say they were so far behind it was on constantly, and they didn't want to disrupt the Friday cliffhangers although they did do that for a short period around 2007/8.

Didn't there jump or skip a number of episodes to catch up? I'm sure that when the series lost viewers..

Don't think so.
Up to a couple of years ago when Home and Away took it's christmas break the Fiver showing ended an episode ahead before its break but now Fiver ends on the Thursday night and returns on a Friday so an episode doesn't have a month gap between the two showings anymore.

Home and Away has never skipped any episodes to catch up. There's two episodes ITV dropped completely due to content but certainly there's never been a jump forward. It's happened in certain regions with the afternoon shows - notably Channel when they changed their feed from TSW to TVS, the Yorkshire/Tyne Tees merger and later on all the Carlton regions shyncronising Shortland Street.
