ITV1:

6.50 Emmerdale
7.50 ITV News
8.00 Harry Hill's Christmas Burp
8.30 Coronation Street
9.30 Midsomer Murders

I'm quite impressed at Harry Hill being in the schedules.

Interesting ITV schedule. I'm not sure that it's the greatest place for TV Burp between two soaps. I'd have expected it to be on the Saturday after as Harry on Paul O'Grady said that they were going to talk about the soaps and Christmas plots mainly. Strange if they can do this before Corrie and whilst Eastenders is on.

That's the curse of ITV on Christmas Day, they always seem to go with soaps for an hour.

Has anybody got the schedules from the last Christmas Day on a Saturday where ITV tried something different from the soaps with things like World Idol.

Do you think that ITV should try to compete with entertainment programmes as well as soaps or should they just air the soaps and dramas?

In 2004 it was a Saturday and went 1840 Emmerdale, 1940 Corrie, 2040 World Idol. Quite dull.

Personally I feel ITV should compete purely because it is good for the channel and gives it a 'halo effect' even if it is not as good commercially. I'd do something like:

1805 News, 1815 Regional, 1820 Emmerdale, 1910 Harry Hill, 1940 Ant and Dec's Christmas Takeaway, 2045 Coronation Street, 2135 Christmas Drama, 2300 News.

Something with a bit more substance really. But you're right, having Harry Hill at 8pm is an odd choice but I guess they needed something to fill the 30 minute slot with EE taking up 8pm rather than 9pm which everyone expected.

Interesting how The Aviator, which was in the TBC listings as going out at 8.30pm on Christmas Day, is nowhere to be seen in the entire 2 week schedules! Rolling Eyes Laughing Just shows how silly the Sun is.

The ITV1 schedule is interesting this year, it seems less formulaic even just with Harry Hill and the News in the middle of the soaps, I'm actually quite impressed.

Aws usual, all the usual hype from the red tops espe3cially about the movie "The Aviator" and guess what, the movie isn't even on! Not a bad schedule for Christmas Day though. Quite a bit of variety.

I didn't think there was any regional news even on the BBC on Christmas Day!

Anyhow - rubbish schedules!

Interestingly in C4's updated schedule on Digiguide the Alternative Christmas Message has been axed from it's 3pm slot and is currently scheduled as "Christmas Day Message" at 8.05pm, which surely can't be right!
:-(
A former member
Channel 4 Press has this up :

2.45pm Strictly Bolshoi
4.20pm Simpsons

so must be true

Any updates on ITV1 during the day? And if there's anything after Midsomer Murders at 9.30pm?

Did they do the soaps? I thought that the last time it was a Saturday they didn't, with it being a Saturday, and opted for World Idol, Millionnaire, Creature Comforts, and things.

I was thinking about this, maybe what they should do is to have their entertainment on Christmas Eve;
6pm Family Fortunes (not sure whether they've done a Christmas one, but they should have done with the series airing in this season)
7pm Emmerdale
7:30 Coronation Street
8pm TV Burp (though with it being about the Christmas progs, maybe it should go out on the following Saturday)
8:30 Christmas Eve Takeaway
9:30 Love Actually (A nice Christmas film to get you into the Christmas mood).

And then have the soaps bolster up Christmas Day.

Another idea I had was if they did a Christmas special where the cast of one soap ends up going to the other. For example if the Dingles end up going to some relatives in Manchester, and end up on Coronation Street.
Who said that the two soaps can't mix? They are set in different parts of the country, but it's Christmas. Then have this on for an hour, maybe two 45 minutes, and free up the schedule a bit.

Yeah they did do the soaps at 7.40 and 8.40.

Having a crossover between Corrie and Emmerdale sounds like hell to me.

It does to me too, but then again, all of the soaps sound like hell to me. Wouldn't Millionnaire fit in better between the soaps?

It's a shame that they don't play on all other programmes in their schedules through the year and commission specials.

The obvious one is the X-MAS Factor, that they're sort of doing this year.
How about Dancing on Ice when Torville & Dean seperate and join up other partners to take on each other.
Celebrity quiz formats for Golden Balls and Poker Face, as long as they were only at Christmas.
Al Murray went down tremendously with his series.

I know that they get more money for programmes airing before Christmas, but surely they need all the ratings that they can get at the moment.
