On advertising, I hope Coca-Cola have seen the light and decided to remake the Trucks adverts in widescreen. I applauded them last year for making some effort by repeating the old 4:3 ads, but they were too short, a bit lackluster and were only broadcast for a couple of weeks in November, followed by the Scary Santa one in December.

Yeah I agree, it's become an unwritten law that seeing those trucks lighting up that random village, is the official start to Christmas for some reason or another! Laughing

It would be nice to see a revamp of the truck, and not just a reformat of the original, as good as it was... I'm not quite sure when it was first used off the top of my head, but the picture quality shows it's age somewhat now.

And as for programming, we're already aware of Doctor Who and Jonathon Creek specials on Christmas Day, but I really would have liked the Red Dwarf comeback to have started this xmas aswell. I always felt it was the one thing the show deserved but never achieved, a Christmas Special.

81 days 'til Christmas [as of 05/10] which means, if like last year, 56 days until GMTV use their Christmas presentation...
Ahh yes, an overfilled with christmas trees studio and the odd camera with a bit of tinsel around the autocue, just to remind the presenters incase they forgot to look behind them during the broadcast

Thought it was often about now the Christmas threads start Embarassed

It would be a shame if Coca Cola haven't revamped their trucks ad after some commotion last year. I was half expecting the .revamped Austrian version would have been nice last year instead we got a botched up version from the mid-nineties.

Talking of Christmas adverts - anybody seen any ads for the 2009 Christmas hamper type things (Park catalogue etc) yet? Or do they not start for a few weeks yet?

I do think Snowball was better than any Christmas ident the dancers served up, but I think what holds them back nowadays it the insistence they must fit in with the "brand" - when in the past Christmas idents generally broke away from the norm.

Well even as far back as 1985, BBC1 had its corporate logo in the ident. This was more of the channel's "brand" than the globe that featured above it. It disappeared for a few years admitedly, but from 1991 onwards the brand has featured as the focus of the idents. 1997 brought more "strict" branding with the red and orange colourscheme, and from 1999 the balloon itself featured in the packages.

2002-5 if anything had the least strict branding of recent years given that the only link seemed to be the inclusion of live-action humans wandering around the screen.

I like to think that this is going to be one of those years where everybody puts in a lot of effort around Christmas. People are going to need cheering up if all this doom-mongering about the economy continues past then!

You mean like a re-edited version of bouncy puddings, edited so they go round in a circle with a new theme?

Or is that not what you mean?

Because that's what you're going to get.

2005 they wer holding baubles - circular - and walking round a tree - circular - and ... nope that's all I've got.

Please don't let 1998's dull lot be repeated thought.

I'd imagine the credit crunch will be the excuse for recycled idents all round this year - I can see only Five having something new.

Why should it be? Surely the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 Television, Channel 5 Broadcasting, UKTV, Sky etc. all have the funds to make idents. After all, sometimes the Beeb brings out special idents for theme nights during the year.

Woah.....because we really need a thread for Christmas telle in October.

Well face it, by now the broadcasters really should have been designing their Christmas presentation packages. A few years ago QVC filmed their Christmas presentation in the middle of summer.
