So, with 5 weeks to go until Christmas Day, and presumably 3 weeks until the idents make their show (if they follow recent years), is there yet any concrete info as to what to expect ident-wise from the BBC this Christmas?

BBC Three rarely seem to bother, and BBC Four will probbaly stick with the 'frost on the screen' ident. But what about BBC One? Is the CV on Digital Spy genuine?

Also, will BBC Two stick with the old ident and bring the gremlin out again?

I'm going to bet on same from Two/Four.

Not sure on Three - they've been doing a fair bit with pres recently, Feed My Funny branding, the 3D 'NEW' logo and endcaps, new bits of pres... possibly. Could go either way depending on how much money they have I guess.

A new ident on BBC1 seems likely, but I'd rather they reuse the previous idents and put something new on BBC2 instead. And really hope they wait an extra week this year, but doubt they will. Launching on the 10th December almost makes you long for the days when they just aired them from Christmas Eve to Boxing Day.

I'm wondering with quite a few Christmas specials and a new head of the channel, will channel 4 finally spread some Christmas ident/presentation joy this year?

I'd guess that BBC Two will use the sprites. As much as I do like them, maybe it is time to move on. I'm surprised that BBC Three haven't done anything with this current branding previously. Would it be hard to adapt, or create a couple that could be used?

Saying that not many digital channels seem to bother with Christmas pres, especially the ones linked to the terrestrial channels.

How will channel 5 adapt the screen idea for Christmas?

And will ITV1 re use last years lovely ident?

Would people prefer (in the way of the BBC Two sprite) for a good ident to be used for at least a couple
Of years, or do people want a brand new ident each year?

This is why generic threads are hopeless. Wink

So yes, something new but not entirely promising sounding from BBC One is assured. From what I gather, the "insider" on Digital Spy turned out to be full of carp; after being rumbled on his initial prediction of "NO NEW BBC1 Christmas ident lol!" he then about turned into "heard they is filming in Lapland!". Mystic mug methinks.

I'd guess that BBC Two will use the sprites. As much as I do like them, maybe it is time to move on.

I really, really don't expect anything new from Two. However, to my surprise, the couple of re-edited regulars produced for Wonders of the Universe in March were immaculately done and highly effective, so hows about a similar bit of creative thinking for Yuletide, a frozen over Seascape, for instance?

But no, we'll get the Gremlin, a-gain, for the 5th time. Boo, I want this BBC Two back. /minortantrum

That's got me very excited it looks very "retro" / "old school"

Tesco Christmas 2011

Best advert so far I think.

What does 'we're keeping Manchester in mince pies' (and so on) mean? Also, the lady drops her t's right at the end.

It means Tesco is providing the people of Manchester with a plentiful supply of mince pies.

Thanks. I did think this is what it would mean but is not something I would say/have heard.

That does look nice.

Looks like we're in for a proper "traditional" christmas ident from bbc1 this year instead of some of the recent efforts which, although very good, were more "winterval" rather than christmas.

Can't wait to see it. Smile

Admittedly, that image tells me very little about the ident but clearly someone here will be left down if something isn't spinning on a turntable.
