So it appears Toys Rus have **** up again; after going to the trouble of reanimating "There's a magical place..." in 2009, this year they've nabbed a naff American advert to use instead.

Cue much vitriol and grammatical hilarity on their Facebook page.

Yeah, stupid them not running the exact same ad for 20 years in order to please kids who grew up with it and now for them Christmas is DEAD .

From conversations with friends this seems to be an unpopular thought - but... I don't mind the 'Toys R Us Kid' ad this year. It's still got some retro-callback, but it's done in a way to appeal to their target audience.

At least their mascot Geoffrey the Giraffe is there. If I recall, on some other years, he was edited out when they updated the logo.

I saw that during the footie.
Interesting choice of character to use, I suppose that it's better than endlessly using that tune for their standard ads. It reminds me of the monster family that sky used a couple of years ago.

Strange... odd choice of voice acting, terribly forced-at-gunpoint dialogue and a weak idea in the first place (which competing online retailer with a real world presence doesn't offer Click and Collect?). Leaves you with the feeling that Argos is just as redundant a concept as you suspected it was... and four blue aliens.

Now the Smash aliens deprecating Argos, that's what I'd like to see.

Never thought Morrisons would out do M&S at a Christmas advert, but they have this year!

What's so special about that? It's awful. Freddie's as dull as dishwater. The John Lewis one of the other hand deserves and Oscar for short film. Fantastic.

I totally agree regarding the John Lewis advert, there's something magical about that story. And everybody remembers being a kid and the feeling of waiting for Christmas morning.

Back to Argos, I'm not sure what to think about it. It's a shame that there's been such a departure in the past few years. This one from 2007 (if I remember rightly) encaptulated a lovely Christmas feeling, in my opinion.

Christmas Wish is from 2006.
