It's never been that common. With all the shopping, news and gambling channels there's probably more than ever
I thought QVC closed on Christmas Day - don't any of the others?
I think QVC show recorded items but I'm pretty sure I've seen channels like Bid TV operating on Christmas Day
QVC used to close on Christmas day showing a recording of behind the scenes stuff and bloopers. The last few years they've had pre-recorded sales on.
The sit-up channels operate from around 4pm on Christmas day.
Sit Up (Bid Shopping) normally have a wonderful recorded hour long programme presented by Andy Hodgson. All of the channels broadcast Bid and the products sold only have the number and price on screen, no quantity.

Certainly in 1997 QVC stopped broadcasting at 12.00pm on Christmas Eve until 9.00am on Boxing Day and the same half hour loop of highlights and bloopers were on-loop.

That Radio Times cover is super.
On the BBC1 Consider Yourself promo: I can't help but feel the whole 'let's have a cosy old sing-along in some naff jumpers' scenario is incomplete without at least a cameo from Val Doonican (ideally replacing Nick Knowles - entirely), but alas...
It is however, nice to see full use of an actual (non-CG) Christmas living room setting in a festive sequence again - the first time on BBC1 since, 1989?
And the knitted Rudolph endboard rounding-off the Xmas preview trail is very nice:

Around 2002/3 I recall the blooper reel running from 6pm Christmas Eve to Midnight Christmas Day/Boxing Day Morning - although there were no staff to take your call until 10am I think - so it was QCut or web orders only.

Keep up.
Yes, yes I'd already read all that Jonny, please consider the word 'genuine' as that was what I was asking. No-one confirmed that picture or anything else. I'd been told about a woollen Santa after having been walked around the BBC TX suite but it was something heard by someone so may have been chinese whispered. Though it does seem the woollen bit was spot on certainly for the trails.
BTW Has there been any genuine Xmas ident confirmation yet? I'd heard something about Penguins (doubt that) or a Woollen Santa (could be on a jumper perhaps!).
Keep up.

Looks like they are using the sparkles on the logo form up again this year then going by the Christmas Films Trailer.

I'm wondering if that Michael Rosser pic was just a joke. Looking at the endboard and "consider yourself" trailer I'm not sure what the Christmas ident will look like. Will it be about jumpers or celebs & others forming a circle. Also is Alex Jones doing the voiceover at the end of the film trailer?
EDIT: Just saw the comedy trailer and the voiceover at the end was Graham Norton. So it looks like the stars in the Christmas promo are doing the voiceovers.

I still have that 1997 blooper reel on VHS!

Along with Daybreak & Lorraine, This Morning have launched their Christmas presentation. They've covered the studio, it looks lovely, especially the hub. They've also got the Christmas designed stings out, no change to the theme tune.
Also, not officially launching until Sunday, text Santa was talked about with this morning doing a record attempt for the largest secret Santa. As part of it, they had OB's at corrie, emmerdale, and itn. ITV is to donate £1.00 to text santa for every one of them that took part.
