Going back to the point about live shows on Christmas Day - I've always wondered whether BBC and ITV continuity announcers were live or pre-recorded throughout the day. I'm guessing they are live in case any breaking news develops?

Speaking of which, the new trail has launched, as a spoof of the John Lewis advert (see it on a website http://www.channel4.com/programmes/gordons-christmas-cookalong-live/articles/gordons-christmas-cookalong-live-trail). What I didn't realise is that the programme will be LIVE on Christmas Day. I can't remember any programme, except news, and religious programmes being on Live. I have read tht Andi Peters did the 1993 Live & Kicking Live on Christmas Day with guests Take That.

Noel Edmonds did live Christmas morning shows from the BT Tower for many years, also, Channel 4 did a live 'One Born Every Minute' last Christmas (or maybe the one before?)

Is it something that has died out in recent years?

It's never been that common. With all the shopping, news and gambling channels there's probably more than ever

STV announcers are live as well, usually between about 5pm and 11pm.

I thought QVC closed on Christmas Day - don't any of the others?

Last year, the only live, non-news programme on BBC TV on Christmas Day was the Christmas Eucharist service. (And on the news, there were only two satellite trucks out: one at Sandringham for the Queen going to church, and one in Bristol for the Jo Yeates story.)

That's is a gorgeous cover that some how feels very up to date, but also very traditional.

294 pages!?! I thought it was meant to be a double issue, that must be triple the usual page count.

I think QVC show recorded items but I'm pretty sure I've seen channels like Bid TV operating on Christmas Day

QVC used to close on Christmas day showing a recording of behind the scenes stuff and bloopers. The last few years they've had pre-recorded sales on.

The sit-up channels operate from around 4pm on Christmas day.

Lovely, but will be somewhat ruined by the barcode. Why can't they put the barcode on the back cover? (It's a genuine question - I've never bought a Radio Times, so have no idea what's on the back.)

Isn't that large white box area in the bottom right for the barcode?

Cover is fantastic.
