Perhaps too early, but never mind! 84 days to go! Wink

Quote:
ITV are set to knock the BBC off their Christmas ratings winning streak, by showing a feature length special of their hit show Downton Abbey.

If rivals ITV are successful this will be the first time in decade that BBC will not come out on top.

The drama which scooped four Emmy awards at the LA based award show earlier this month, including best miniseries, directing, writing and supporting actress, beat off strong competition from US Drama shows.

ITV who reportedly plan to show a 90 minute feature of Downton Abbey on Christmas day, which stars Hugh Bonneville, have ruffled the BBC schedulers feathers.

ITV have only managed to beat the BBC in their Christmas day peak time showings twice in over 20 years.

A spokesperson for ITV told the Mail Online: 'We have confirmed that there will be a special of Downton Abbey during the festive period, but we have not confirmed which day it will be scheduled on or the length of the episode yet.'

Interested to see if ITV have the balls to put up a serious fight this year. Downton Abbey in a Corrie sandwich would be pretty interesting, I saw that floated about on other sites. There seems to be a growing consensus the BBC are being lazy at Christmas with the same old format of Doctor Who, Strictly, EastEnders and the Royle Family. From reports, it appears this year is no different.

Also regarding presentation, as ever eager to see what the BBC do - but in recent years ITV have done a really nice job (I preferred ITV's pres last year).

Videos of last year's presentation from ITV1 and BBC One.

Interested to hear others' views on this year's schedules and presentation. Feel free to contribute your favourite videos from the past too!

Rumours going around on DS stating BBC One will reuse previous Christmas idents.

Is it just me or are the Christmas ads more important than the presentation these days?

Anyone know what Coke has up their sleeves?

But with this weeks weather Christmas seems way off.

Complete cop out if true.

I think I would rather they spent the money on Christmas Day programmes than unneeded new idents that would be used for just three weeks.

Knowing the BBC the Christmas idents will probably be on in a couple of weeks! Based on recent years though I suspect 10th December is the likely debut, though the 17th would be much better (though still arguably too early). I've no problem though with the BBC reusing their idents for BBC1 - but BBC2 desperately needs a new one.

I'm looking forward to seeing the usual suspects in the provisional Christmas schedules - To Be Announced and its cousin, To Be Confirmed. Just a pity that neither of these shows have ever made it to air, though. Laughing

Can't agree.

In an era where the BBC has 20% less to spend, and is going to be sacking people left, right and centre, spending money on a new set idents, when the previous year's are still in the current brand and perfectly serviceable could be tricky to justify.

Wow, I forgot about that BBC One ident, it is terrible isn't it? I do not know what all this fuss over spending is about. Just stick a snowman on a turntable and have done with it.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind them reusing them. Some of the previous packages still have life in them.

It would be great if BBC had not spent so much spending on themed Christmas idents they could have had a good selection by now if the BBC has chosen not to make new one this year.
