Jingle All The Way wouldn't be too bad if it didn't get so silly towards the end.

But the Terminator ordering Troy McClure to put his cookies down isn't silly at all Razz

To summarise the last nine pages...

"same old same old!"
"Why Isn't Elf on!?"
"It wouldn't be the same without The Snowman!"

Of course, the real quintessential Christmas film is Jingle All The Way.

I've never seen Jingle All The Way. For me Muppet Christmas Carol is the ultimate Christmas film. Elf I like but it falls apart towards the end imo.

The Home Alone series (well the first two anyway) was spoiled somewhat by some smartarse somewhere a few years ago ruining the magic by decreeing the bad guys would have been dead long before they even entered the house in the first film.

In fact, found it, they died 23 times over apparently between them.

The third Home Alone film was meh, the fourth was so crap it was untrue and the fifth was still crap but so much better than the fourth one.

The 2nd got stick for both having a similar plot to the first and having traps that were over the top, but I still love it. The 3rd was essentially a reboot and would've been fine if it didn't bear the name Home Alone. The 4th is a travesty (they dress the bad guy up as Harry but call him Marv) and I haven't even considered looking at the 5th.

Wasn't even Home Alone by the second movie, though it sounded better than "New York Alone" I suppose. Notable now (besides Donald Trump's cameo) for its inclusion of Kevin at the top of the World Trade Center, something that sadly can't be replicated today, in reality anyway.

Apparently Home Alone 2 was supposed to be filmed back to back with a third but the budget couldn't cover it. By the time 3 was entering production, Macaulay had well and truly passed the bankable star stage.

on BBC Four on Wednesday: The Story of... Fairytale of New York, which was a commission for BBC Three back in 2005. I remember it being quite good, too.

From the same series, The Story of... Bohemian Rhapsody is on New Year's Day, which looks like it was originally shown in 2004.

17 years today since Kirstie MacColl died. Shame she never lived to see how popular Fairytale of New York would go onto become, top 20 in the charts every year for the last 12 years.

I wonder if she would have protested radio stations when they tried to censor some of the lyrics a few years ago?

There's a clip of one of the music channels asking Shane about the censoring and he didn't seem to really care.

It's 10 years ago Radio 1 censored it and then backtracked after listener feedback.

Wiki (yes I know) says the BBC tried to censor it on Top of the Pops in 1987:

Quote:
On 17 December 1987, The Pogues and MacColl performed the song on the BBC's popular television show Top of the Pops, and it was propelled to number two on the official UK Top 75. For the Top of the Pops appearance, the BBC insisted that MacColl's singing of "arse" be replaced with the less offensive "ass", although as she mimed the word MacColl slapped the relevant part of her body to make it clear what was meant.
