Thought I might as well put this here rather than a new topic. When we get the double issue of all the tv guides this Christmas will it be the fortnight 17th Dec - 30th Dec with a separate issue for New Years Eve/New Years Day, or will be from 24th Dec - 6th Jan? Im expecting it to be 17th Dec - 30th December as they like to have a "new season" issue for New Year for all the new series starting.

Based on when this last happened which was in 1994, it'll be Saturday 17th to Friday 30th December, and will be out in the shops around the 5th December

They should break with tradition one year and have 16 days in the xmas issue to cover New Year

I worked out that it would be on sale around about then as well based on whats happened in previous years.

Issue for week ending 2nd December will go on sale on Tuesday 22nd November - the usual day for the TV mags to go on sale.

Next issue will go on sale on Saturday 26th December (issue for week ending 9th December)

Next issue will go on sale Thursday 1st December (issue week ending 16th December)

Then the double issue will go on sale Monday/Tuesday 5/6 December.

But the question is which soap will get the cover on Whats on TV/TV Quick this year, I dont believe for a second that Corrie will get the cover on any of the tv mags. Wink

I wouldn't be surprised if Love Actually was shown on one of the terrestials at some point.... or will it be another year before it can some onto FTA?

As it's based around Christmas now would be the perfect time.

Didn't someone on here inform us that ITV have the terrestrial premiere rights to Love Actually and could be showing it next month, is this true?

Love Actually would have been good on BBC One with the red and white colouring of the movie tieing in with the channels on screen look!

Yes ITV were very active in the acquisitions department when it comes to films. they have loads and this is one of them. I know the BBC have Pirates Of The Caribbean so I can see that on BBC1 over Christmas along with Calendar Girls. The thing is ITV did loads of deals and have loads more options, of the stuff the BBC bought there aren't many that can be considered to be a BIG Christmas movie.

BBC Likely Christmas Films:

Pirates of the Carribbean
Calendar Girls
Cold Mountain
Signs
Chicago
The Hours
The Lizzie Maguire Movie

There also some movies from the Dreamworks, Icon and Fox Studios that have been acquired. The BBC no longer have a policy to invest millions in films that no one will watch. The emphasis now is on home grown drama and movies.

How did you ind out about those Icon and Fox movies because I don't think they made a big announcement of signing these deals. Also I heard that there was going to be a Cracker special this year a Christmas Cracker if you will!!

Sorry!

Always annoying when the New Year listings aren't in the Xmas TV guide. They should add the extra 3 days (NYE, NYD, BHM) then do a 10 day bumper "New Season" edition.

I see the BBC have released programme information for week ending 2nd December on the Press Office website.
So not long to go now I suspect before the early rough Christmas schedules will be released to the tabloids.

Found my copy of last years Christmas TV Times - the evening schedule on Christmas Day for ITV1 was

5.15 You've Been Framed at Christmas!
5.40 WWTBAM Celebrity Special
6.40 News
6.55 Emmerdale
7.25 Coronation Street
8.25 Midsomer Murders
10.25 News
10.30 Parkinson

I liked having just a half hour Emmerdale rather than 1 hour on Christmas Day, I think half hour is enough. I hope they come up with something better than You've Been Framed and WWTBAM this year though.

Put The Telly On
We either go out to relatives on Christmas Day or play games all evening like Charades or Cranium and drink. Also, the Christmas meal goes on practically all day - by the time the turkeys cooked.

So basically, its difficult keeping up with everything thats on TV. One hour soap specials don't help. Wink

They didn't sign an exclusive deal....alot of them such as Spiderman (Columbia I know) have already been shown on Five but the films are reaining titles to be shown from a deal signed some three years ago. I think Cheaper By The Dozen is part of that deal.

But didn't they show an old Eric & Ernie and old Two Ronnies Christmas shows last year on BBC1?

During a quick scan on BBC One schedules from the past three years, The Two Ronnies haven't appeared on the three 'big days' (X Eve, X Day Bx Day) at all.

For info - Eric and Erns appearences for the past 3 years (all BBC One)
2002 - Christmas Morning 11.15am
2003 - Christmas Morning 11.35am
2004 - Boxing Day Morning 09.00am

I'd be interested to see an Xmas schedule from say, 2000 for ITV or BBC One.

Ive got some tv guides from 2000 but not the Christmas one. Corrie have usually shown a 1 hiur Emmerdale, 1 hour Corrie and WWTBAM most years on Christmas Day since 1998.

Jez can you PM / show the schedules for the soaps in 2000? What days were they on, duration etc? I'm sure it must have only been 3 / 4 times a week?

Corrie: Monday Wednesday Friday Sunday 7.30pm
Emmerdale: Monday Tuesday Thursday 7.00pm
EastEnders: Monday 8.00pm Tuesday Thursday 7.30pm

Was The Bill in serial format back then? I have such a terrible memory.

Am I right?
