Last year's Morecambe and Wise was a bit of a fiasco - the BBC and five mananged to both show Christmas specials from two seperate years (the five one being a Thames production) which appeared to have a very similar script. The same sketches being performed with different guests etc.

When Morecambe and Wise went to ITV their Thames shows were more or less rehashes of the legendary work they did on the BBC. I remeber a dance routine with Marian Montgomery from Christmas 1976 that they did on ITV years later with Suzanne Danielle, they also did a sketch with Nigel Hawthorne on their Thames show that was originally performed with Francis Matthews in 1971!!

I wouldn't be surprised if Love Actually was shown on one of the terrestials at some point.... or will it be another year before it can some onto FTA?

As it's based around Christmas now would be the perfect time.

Didn't someone on here inform us that ITV have the terrestrial premiere rights to Love Actually and could be showing it next month, is this true?

Love Actually would have been good on BBC One with the red and white colouring of the movie tieing in with the channels on screen look!

Yes ITV were very active in the acquisitions department when it comes to films. they have loads and this is one of them. I know the BBC have Pirates Of The Caribbean so I can see that on BBC1 over Christmas along with Calendar Girls. The thing is ITV did loads of deals and have loads more options, of the stuff the BBC bought there aren't many that can be considered to be a BIG Christmas movie.

They own the rights to 2 and 3, both Matrix sequels and quite a few Warner Brothers and Universal movies. The only big movie deal the BBC did was with Disney/Buena Vista which includes Kill Bill and Chicago in the package. Read more here http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2003/10_october/08/buena_vista.shtml

I think ITV were originally going to show Potter 2 as part of their autumn season, but I can see them keeping it back until Christmas to dent BBC1's ratings on Christmas Day. Having said that though they might still put it on the autumn because of the ad revenue it would bring in.

Thought I might as well put this here rather than a new topic. When we get the double issue of all the tv guides this Christmas will it be the fortnight 17th Dec - 30th Dec with a separate issue for New Years Eve/New Years Day, or will be from 24th Dec - 6th Jan? Im expecting it to be 17th Dec - 30th December as they like to have a "new season" issue for New Year for all the new series starting.

Ah the good old double issue edition. I remember when you had to buy the Radio Times and TV Times separately, then you'd spend the day circling all the programmes and films you wanted to see with a pen!! God I feel so old!!

Based on when this last happened which was in 1994, it'll be Saturday 17th to Friday 30th December, and will be out in the shops around the 5th December

They should break with tradition one year and have 16 days in the xmas issue to cover New Year

This was many years ago when it was just THREE channels! Shocked

Movies now don't have the pull they used to because of rentals and Sky. As for the Christmas message it will be done by Jamie Oliver.
