That'll be their 15 minute peaks rather than the averages for each show as quoted in the first post in this thread. And their 5 minute peaks are even higher than that with 14 million for Doctor Who and 15 million for EastEnders.

Complaints about Christmas TV? Am I really the only one that switched the box off and spent time with my family and friends then?

No, well not sure. We had the TV on while having Christmas dinner, then played the DVD Deal Or No Deal Game and stuffing our faces.

Well I didn't think it was a vintage Christmas but it scored the best ratings for a Christmas Day schedule since 2002 I think.

I think ITV pretty much gave up on Christmas this year. Hopefully with he relaunch next year it will be back to normal.

But they give up on Christmas most years, they usuallly do quite well with Corrie and Emmerdale though. And I do remember a time when they gave us 2 or 3 editions of Millionaire on Christmas Day when it was still red hot.

The combined peak share of audience for BBC1 and BBC2 was 51.7 per cent this year, while, last year it was 44.4 per cent.

A BBC spokeswoman said: "This is considerably higher than the last few years and means that more than half of available viewers watching TV in the evening were watching programmes on the BBC."

The BBC trounced ITV. Even Corrie performed badly, although that's fully deserved because it's awful at the moment. ITV are too reliant on soaps at Xmas and because the soaps on ITV have been dreadful this year, the whole ITV schedule suffers.

Pretty much a given, every year. The most absurd one is probably the News at 6 o'clock being the 11th highest watched programme of the year.

Not as absurd as the possibility of EastEnders being the most watched of the year.

They are some INCREDIBLE ratings, Doctor Who's not seen those ratings for over 25 years I'd say. Big ratings for EastEnders as well, I think that's the highest peak since the last ever Only Fools and Horses in 2003.

Some very good TV there, though!

I'm not surprised. It was a superb episode. Put any episode that Corrie has produced this year in the shade.

ITV never cares about Christmas Day. The advertisers are only interested in the week or two beforehand as that's when everyone splashes the cash. All you ever see on the day itself and the days afterwards are ultra-cheap adverts for the likes of DFS. Ergo, they don't give a crap and put any rubbish on.

Another great advert for why we need the BBC then... Very Happy

Incidentally - OT - BBC Scotland appear to be running without continuity this afternoon. Presumably they've got one member of staff on, and he'll be compiling the regional news.
