Christmas Presentation - All Channels

I've had a look at The TV Room. The ITV2 Christmas December 2008 page (added today) states that ITV2 haven't got any Christmas idents this year, but does have a Christmas sting and some seasonal trail graphics.

The TV Room has pages of Christmas 2008 pres on Five, Fiver and Five US, so I can check that to see what to spot. If The TV Room is anything to go by with Sky though, there's Christmas pres to watch out for on Sky 1, 2 and 3, as well as the Sky Movies family of channels, but none on Sky Arts.

The TV Room therefore seems a good guide as to what Christmas pres to spot this year (idents, stings, trailers etc) on various channels, but it's not the be all and end all. Take CBeebies. The TV Room lists no Christmas 2008 pres for that channel. However, it's got the song "Happy Christmas to everyone" at the start of the day, which first appeared Xmas 2006, and with the version of the video that was first aired Xmas 2007. No mention of that on The TV Room.

What I want is a reliable complete list of what to look out for and what channels to not bother with.

Around 6:15 pm I recorded the Brass Band ident off Dave - the one that ends with the men in red jackets and black sashes with "Dave" on - some playing brass instruments. According to The TV Room and TIG, that's one of the standard Dave idents. Trouble is I've not actually monitored Dave idents through the course of the year. Presumably therefore Dave aren't bothering with Xmas pres.

It's such a job to tell whether the idents currently airing on channels is Christmas pres or standard pres if you don't know their standard pres, isn't it?

Well not really. It's a safe bet if you can't tell it's Christmas pres then it probably isn't - and even if it is, it obviously isn't very good.

Dave, as last year, aren't bothering by the looks of it. The same goes for UKTV History (whereas in the past they have had Christmas pres). Watch & G.O.L.D. (yes I just typed it all out) does have Christmas pres.

Only having Freeview, the only ones I can confirm as having Christmas pres this year are:

Very disappointing that Channel 4 again, havn't bothered to come up with a christmas ident, especially as their ident style is so versatile.

Don't remind me about the Christmas pres on CBeebies/CBBC and CITV. Spent a load of yesterday recording loads of that for the site, only for the DVD recorder to screw up the whole lot. Never used to get this with VHS tapes I tell you!

Channel 4 have always used the 'it's because we like to be the alternative Christmas' excuse (as reliably dug out as the 'it's in our remit to be challenging so xyz falls into this' whenever they put out some cheap trash which goes wrong). However I'm not sure it's a bad thing considering the alternative. Before they gave up altogether they used that same cheap and nasty 2D lines one for about 5 years in the end, even after it no longer matched the main lot's style with the lights etc. I'd much rather they didn't bother at all than repeated some weak effort over and over.

Just a question, who is this annoying, strict sounding woman who is heard on all trailers advertising christmas on bbc one?

Am I imagining it or did I just see a break bumper on Channel 4 with the old Xmas ident from about ten years ago?

I saw it today before the Christmas episode of The Simpsons. It was the break bumper from their last package.

Why? Why on earth did they recycle the box look for a single bumper?
