I must be the only one who liked last years BBC
One presentation bundle then?
If it was hand drawn, or stop motion, or something that looks like charm and effort have been put into it, I would've liked it. But the fact that they opted for cheap and quick CG just makes it really bland.
For me the issue with last years idents was that they didn't make the characters prominent enough, I think if have preferred to see one character (for example the robin zoomed to only one of them) then pulling back or using the circle as a wipe to reveal the wrapping paper of that character or with all of them on.
The little animations with the robin, the fairies, etc were lovely but because they were so small it didn't have a massive impact.
Though a hell of a lot better than the 2012 idents.
"Fine" is probably the problem - traditionally BBC Christmas presentation should be a little bit more than that. I think also the idents need to do more than the trailers, and last year the endboards and idents were essentially the same.
There is also the age old argument of familarity taking some of the magic out of it, both in terms of the idents beginning too early and the trailers often even earlier. I suspect we're looking at around the 13th December this year for the debut.
But the counter argument is that it costs more money to produce something extravagant so they air them for longer. Pre 1997 anything must have seemed amazing and special against 362 days of the spinning globe.
I suspect we're looking at around the 13th December this year for the debut.
Generally they premiere at the same time as a series finale (strictly for example) - 20th would be perfectly early enough, but I suspect you are right and it'll be "officially Christmas" from tea time on Sat 13th.
