This has really surprised me, with their impending rebrand I suspected Five would reuse last year's effort. Certainly the most 'Christmassy' pres, although BBC2's idents remain my favourite so far. A high quality ident nonetheless.

The problem would have been the inclusion of the word "give", which linked the ident to last year's charity appeals. The one time they did re-use the same ident (2004/5) was a strange decision because it looked more like a Guy Fawkes ident.

In any case, perhaps five are trying to teach BBC2 that a New Year rebrand isn't an excuse to recycle a Christmas ident Wink

five have been producing some cracking pres over the past few years and this year's Christmas ident is no exception. I loved last year's ident, but this is even better.

Generally speaking, I think five is often overlooked when it comes to pres, which is a shame. While it's idents are not of C4's quality, I think they're arguably in second place.

I'll agree to that. Five's idents are amazingly produced overall.
The only problem that I have is with the rest of the presentation, mainly the trailer endboards which could look lovely if they tried, they don't even seem to change them at Christmas to suit the rest of the presentation.

As for this years ident, it's gorgeous.
When I saw the caps on page 10 from Ashley, I thought that they'd done 4 seperate idents, would people have prefered 4 different ones, to draw each animation out to fill each ident to add a varied bunch over the two weeks rather than just the one?

I'm really hoping that ITV can do something, and I'm also hoping that they'll do the something from Saturday rather than waiting until Christmas Eve as they seemed to do. Usually I quite like the Christmas Eve start, but with quite a few of their Christmas specials airing on Saturday night, and with Christmas Eve being at the start of the week rather than half way through, I think that it would be an ideal time to launch them.

The five movies ident has also had a little festivity added, with Santa flying past at the end:

I really like UKTV's xmas presentation this year, nice circles with the channel name large with UKTV underneath and different christmas symbols on the reverse, the circles spin. The circles actually could be used as logos I think.

I agree while the idents are really good, the end trailers and to a lesser extent the off screen marketing are really bland and look like a powerpoint presentation. Five's presentation and logo are being changed in Feb or March this is the last time we are seeing the current logo with a Christmas look.

I suspect - though if they have got something up their sleeves and hold off until the weekend, or even Christmas Eve, they should be praised for that.

Maybe not so Scrooge-like...

Oh nice. I predict a Christmas ident will either launch tonight or tomorrow, due to the festive menu style advertising the Saturday evening line-up. Surely they wouldn't go to all this effort and then fail to produce an ident?

Nice breakbumper - video not working here though.
