Thought it would be a wise idea to start a completely new thread to discuss this year's Christmas presentation so as to separate festive presentation discussion from regular idents/Christmas programmes.

What we know so far:

BBC One will definitely be airing a new ident (perhaps in addition to last years?) although there is no confirmed launch date. If we are to go by the trails, then the ident will have launched by Tuesday (Oliver Twist trail has sparkles) but the SCD trail, advertising this Saturday's programme, has no sparkles.

BBC Two is expected to have a new ident but will it adhere to the Window on the World theme? The trail style contains snowflakes, a hint?

ITV1, we don't know what to expect. No festive trails have been spotted thus far, can anyone shed any light on ITV's plans (or lack of). UTV/STV reusing last years efforts?

Channel 4, as above. Very unlikely to show a Christmas ident as they aim to be 'different'. Although I have seen more of the 'Snow' breakbumper recently.

Five, expected to reuse last years idents I presume, which is a good thing.

A Christmas trailer was spotted on ITV Sales website:

It was sparkles over the ITV1 logo, maybe thats a clue as to what they plan to do?

Saw BBC Two's festive trailer board with the snowflakes after a promo for Heston Blumenthal.. looks quite nice and works well.

And it knocks spots of the ITV effort certainly!

From my own contacts within ITV I know that they have a rather "frown-upon" attitude to Christmas as far as branding is concerned. That is why in 2002 we got nothing more than sparkles over the logo on the normal idents - the Marketing department apparently did not want to compromise the ITV brand image for any length of time. Even in 2003, despite that stunning snowflake ident the rest of the celeb idents were simply re-touched with a "snow machine" effect from the ITV1 logo itself.

So perhaps we should not really have been surprised by the "do nothing" ethos of last year. Why does TV pres have to be so rigid these days?

Doubt it. Last year's trailer had the sparklets over the logo but they still had no ident.

Hmm, that looks more like a yellow fairy or a moth from the Bike ident than just sparkles. There could be something in that.

Yeah all the snowflakes cut into the '2' masking over the image and cuts into the boxed logo... looks really nice. Hope the ident is just as beautifuly designed!

ITV have long had a similar attitude to Christmas programmes!

Christmas itself isn't really an ITV thing, the run up to the big day (i.e. now) is more important

I still think BBC ONE will launch their Christmas ident on Saturday, regardless if the SCD trailer does not have the sparkles.

Surely if the run up to Christmas is important, then getting people in the right mood is - thus the branding is.

I think the BBC idents will be out on Saturday. Before Robin hood for BBC One. Thats why SCD doesn't have sparkles.
