'Santa Claus The Movie' always guaranteed on BBC1 mid-morning on either the 23rd or 24th. It's been on every Christmas that I can remember.

Guaranteed to be on sometime at Xmas:
The Snowman
A decent comedy movie (Naked Gun)
Depressing news (Iran earthquake last year)
MoTD on Boxing Day
Disney (Bedsticks and Broom****s, Mary Poppins)
Religious twaddle (Midnight Mass etc.)
ITV crap movie (Raise The Titanic)
It's A Wonderful Life / White Christmas
Any more?

It's traditional slot is teatime Christmas Eve, usually near Countdown, but it has been moved around a bit or left out over the years.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the "revealed" schedules as The Vicar of Dibley is supposedly the main event for Christmas Day and is being recorded on 3/10 October. I would have thought that the Holby City/Casualty disaster special will more than likely be on Tuesday 28th (Known this year as Holiday Tuesday) and Auf Wiedersehen Pet will be on Boxing Day. That is my opinion anyway. it's abit like reading those "Free" Xmas Tv Guides in the newspapers at the end of November. They are full of To be Announced programmes and are always wrong!

What do you mean by "Religious Twaddle"? It is after all, fundamentally, because of Religious Twaddle as you eloquently put it, that we have Christmas in the first place, and considering how much airtime is given over to soaps, movies and sport, a small amount of programmes on the reasoning behind Christmas is hardly going to destroy anyones Christmas plans! You're right about MOTD though. Two hours of otherwise wasted airtime just to show football on a huge Bank Holiday. A movie or entertainment show would be better, after all it's not imperative to show football for so long. An hour long show at 11pm would be sufficient!

In the 1970s-mid-80s, soaps DID appear on Christmas Day but only when they would appear anyway. So what you got depended on what day Christmas fell on. Please BBC and ITV, there are 364 other days on the calendar for soaps. Following the blasphemous assault at Easter, please give us us the day off.
Soap are the most popular programmes on TV. Why shouldn't there be special editions on Christmas Day?

One question - why is "Holby" (presumably "Holby City") scheduled for a Saturday... I know it's Christmas Day but it's hardly Christmas Day material!
And as it's a Saturday, can we have at least ONE Christmas without bloody soap operas on nearly every channel!
