BBC still cleaned up good and proper. Well done to them because they had some good output over the festive season.

Wow, Doctor Who official confirmed as second most popular programme over the Christmas period, shame it didn't beat Eastenders

Strange - that reads like my list of "TV shows to avoid at all costs". Who watches all that crap?

It does show that there are now far too many soaps on tv nowadays (especially over the Christmas period), only 6 programmes on the list are non soap of which three are kids programmes (Shrek 2, Shrek The Halls & Finding Nemo) & two family one (Doctor Who & Strictly Come Dancing) and one comedy programme (To The Manor Born). I remember a time when soapsd would only appear once or twice on the Christmas lists.

EDIT: Miscounted non soaps

And the soaps have been steadily losing popularity- a case of having too many eggs in one basket.

Nearly a quarter of the UK population in the case of the EastEnders at no.1

Though not nearly as many as used to watch it.

With the possible exception of Dr Who and the kiddies' stuff, I'm with Phil on this one.

Still, it has always been the case that popularity and quality are two very different things hasn't it?
