Hate to sound a scrooge here, but I was wondering when the festive idents will be removed. Don't get me wrong - I'm not looking forward to them being taken off air, I just want to know when they will be.

My guess is that BBC1 and BBC2s' idents will be last shown on Monday 3rd January in the early hours of the morning. BBC Breakfast on BBC1 that morning I think will then be intoduced using "Tai Chi".

I think ITV1's will end on Wednesday the 29th - the day the bank holidays end and I go back to work.

And for Channel 4 - no worries here then, being as though they never showed any idents in the first place.

As far as I'm concerned, Channel 5 is anyone's guess, being as though I can't get this station.

Totally agree - evening of the 6th should be about right - but they'll end earlier, however they could go on a bit longer this year because of the Blue Peter connection.

I would imagine their last airing will be at "closedown" on 1 January.

No, they will last until at least New Year's Day... the festive design menu is still in place for that date.

Usually they end it after the New Year's holiday, in which case it will be Tuesday 4th, because Monday 3rd is a bank holiday.

Yes it will probabaly be close down on 3rd January that they will end and everything will be back to normal from 4th January.

Well if they do go by January 4th, by then they would have knocked up nearly two and a half of weeks of pudding coverage. Gone are the days when the Christmas idents would appear on the evening of Christmas Eve and be gone by the end of transmissions of Boxing Day.

Personally, I got bored of them before Christmas Day, probably because they started so early. Still, just a week to go!

don't they normally have a special new years ident or is that just wishful thinking?

I always thought a perfect ident for the New Year would be to get a line of people doing Auld Lyne Syne. Not quite dancing but you could have a person from every walk of life to make it PC friendly for Mrs Heggasy and based on the current Christmas idents and their length they have been on telly. This particular New Years ident can start on the 27th December and run right through until March Smile

Surely it is time to drop these idents next year. I knwo the BBC used to keep theirs for 4-5 years orginally but in this day & age it dates quickly. Look at ITV1 & Five.

Time for a completely new set of idents which are thought about long & hard before just been put on screen

BTW I like this years Xmas ident but should be used for THIS YEAR ONLY!
