First Christmas promos find there way onto BBC 1 tonight. Seems the policy of trails differing from idents will apply this year as well... Wink

There's a Christmas Comedy Preview on Freeview 702 now (listed on the bridge so I presume it's on other platforms too), with odd but quite nice flat animation of comedy characters...

I saw a BBC1 Christmas trailer at 5.30 and there was not a dancer in sight or an indiciation to what the idents at Chrimble might be. Basically in between the programmes they were being advertised were cartoon charicatures of the stars being involved over Chrimble. Maybe they won't use a dancing theme at Chrimble then?

Just saw a promo for Christmas on BBC ONE. Early days yet, but looks like Simon Luxton might be moaning, as the promo featured what looked like the backdrop for last years BBC ONE christmas idents.

That was the beauty of the pre-1991 days; in the Christmas idents you had almost total flexibility in theme (look at how often the globe was rested), also how to present the BBC1/BBC2 logo and subtitle captions. Since 1991 of course, Christmas idents have followed the same style guides and it could be argued this has restricted creativity.

Indeed, when designing my 2003 Christmas mock for BBC1, I toyed with incorporating the word "Christmas" for the first time in 13 years. In the end I didn't, but I don't see why it can't be done.

The mock will appear on TVF once I've thought of something for BBC2!

Apparently the same idents from Christmas 2002 will be shown this year on BBC One. They were so popular that they are going to have another airing this year - and so no new idents will be released.

There was a promo on BBC ONE just now - 9pm - with what looked like a cross between a spinning snowflake, a Christmas tree and the original BBC Breakfast Time logo at the end of the trailer... Very odd!

More like a bloody lack of effort. The ident is very good but I'm sure they could at least do a BBC TWO and add another ident to the collection.

Oh if that is true, it won't be the same, it'll be like watching Christmas last year all over again.

Let's hope ITV don't apply the same logic and have those crappy shooting stars around the logo. Rolling Eyes
