I know, but it's November now! (November 2005)

I hope we don't see the Bouncy Puddings on BBC One again as I was sick and tired of seeing the thinkgs before Christmas and if we are to guess that they are to launch on Saturday 17th December, as opposed to Christmas Eve, then this is eight days before Christmas and I'm sure everyone will be sick of seeing it by then. I think that they should re-use Snowflake and create a new ident based around figureskating on ice. I somehow think that Bouncy Puddings won't be reused because of the Tsunami and thus maybe we will be treated to a new one.
As for BBC Two, I think we are due for a new ident, hopefully an actual Christmas one unlike Snowman and Ice Cube. I would like to see short versions of the other three created as well then that, with a long and short version of a new one, would leave us with eight festive idents, that I'm sure will do justice for two weeks.

One other question, are we expecting a new BBC One Ident to be shown after we return to normal presentation as we have for the past two years?

I agree about starting Idents too early on 17th December. waiting until Wednesday 21st and then going until 2nd January would suffice. I have a notion that the slogan BBC1 will use this year instead of "The One for Christmas" will be modified slightly to "The One to Watch this Christmas". Also I think the Idents may be a festive modification of the slides that just have an enormous BBC One logo prior to the end frame of the One To Watch trailers. If that doesn't make sense then I apologise.

How does a wave affect bouncy christmas puddings?

Remember, BBC 1 are relaunching in 2006, will the idents go on until 2nd January? To be honest, I think that BBC 1 should ditch the whole cute kids idea and start with something fresh. Earlier I saw a mock for guy fawkes night on TV Forum - look it up, something like that but christmassy would be great.

The wave didn't affect the bouncy puddings but the music (light-hearted, jolly etc.) was deemed inappropriate for a news special as was the fact that they were bouncing around albeit slower than usual. IIRC, many called for Ballet to be used despite this breaking Christmas presentation rules.

Umm, there were calls for Ballet to be used, because many saw the idea of children jumping around with light-hearted music to be inappropiate. IIRC the Puddings one was used, in a very short time, with the volume at the lowest available. Even so Ballet should have been used.

BBC1 is interesting. I wouldn't expect anything new, but I wouldn't think they'd reuse the design of a competition winner for the second year. If anything, the snowflakes might return!

Hopefully C4 have some idents in the wings. The original press info about the revamp said their were 15 new idents, but only 9 have been used so far!

I'm sure there would still have been complaints about using an ident featuring crashing waves in the background had they gone for Ballet... but agreed, using jolly bouncing children immediately before reports of the world's worst natural disaster in living memory did seem a tad insensitive. Even something like Capoeira or Acrobats would have been better.

The only reason this became an issue was because we are in a branding era with no station clocks. That said, there were plenty of ways they could have got round it, ie. a BBC News slide.

It was a banal decision when we discussed it at the time. I think there was one director/announcer who played the slow version mute one day. I could imagine they were one of a few who couldn't understand the decision but powerless to do anything about it.

I assume there is/was a policy of blanket Xmas ident usage over that period, barring a 'significant' death?

Let's hope they either retract the rule this year or have a suitably Christmassy ident that can be used into the news. Hopefully they'll reduce the duration as last year's got a bit ridiculous and it would be nice to think they'll give the dancers a rest in favour of something a bit more stylish.

I guess whatever it is, someone within the Beeb already knows...
